Data Center Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data center technician in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a data center technician, so the path runs through education and vendor credentials. Most employers expect at least a high school diploma or GED, and an associate degree in information technology, computer systems, or electronics gives candidates a strong edge. CompTIA A+, CompTIA Server+, and the Cisco CCNA are the certifications Texas employers most consistently list. Texas community colleges like Austin Community College and Dallas College offer relevant programs that feed directly into local data center roles.
How much do data center technicians make in Texas?
Data center technicians in Texas earn a median of about $45,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $35,010 for the lowest 10% to over $60,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data center technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring data center technicians in Texas right now include Amazon, CBRE, and Trane Technologies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of hyperscale cloud campuses, enterprise colocation providers, and energy-sector IT operations means demand stays consistent across multiple employer types throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most data center technician jobs?
Dallas, Austin, and Fort Worth account for the most data center technician openings in Texas. Dallas leads because of the dense cluster of hyperscale and colocation campuses in the metroplex's northern suburbs, while Austin's technology employer base and San Antonio's growing cloud infrastructure and military-adjacent IT operations drive consistent hiring in those markets.
Are there remote data center technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. The core work of a data center technician, including hardware installation, cabling, and facilities response, requires physical presence on site. About 8% of data center technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve remote monitoring, documentation, or vendor coordination rather than hands-on infrastructure work.
How can I get hired as a data center technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate data center technician role, which large Texas colocation and cloud employers post specifically for candidates without deep experience. Companies operating hyperscale campuses in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex regularly hire for facilities assistant and data center operator positions that provide on-the-job training. Candidates coming from IT help desk, computer repair, or structured cabling backgrounds transition well. Earning a CompTIA A+ before applying and completing a hands-on electronics or IT program at a Texas community college makes a meaningful difference in getting past initial screening.
Where can I find and apply to data center technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to data center technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring right now. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each one.
