Who We are looking for
Act as the enterprise product and portfolio leader for Data & AI, defining strategy, owning the roadmap, and ensuring disciplined execution and value realization—while delivering clear, compelling communication to internal and external stakeholders.
What you will be responsible for
The Head of Data & AI Strategy, Portfolio & Value serves as the central product and portfolio management authority for all Data & AI initiatives across State Street.
This role operates at the intersection of strategy, product management, and executive communication, ensuring that Data & AI investments are:
- Strategically aligned to business priorities
- Structured as coherent, product-oriented roadmaps
- Transparently tracked and measured for value
- Effectively communicated to employees, clients, and investors
The role requires a leader who combines deep understanding of data and AI platforms with modern product management discipline and the ability to deliver high-quality executive narratives and artifacts.
This leader will run a small, high-impact team responsible for managing the end-to-end Data & AI portfolio, driving roadmap clarity, and producing high-quality materials for executive, board, client, and investor consumption.
Success is measured by clarity of strategy, portfolio discipline, roadmap execution, and quality of internal and external communication.
What you will be responsible for
Enterprise Data & AI Strategy

Define and evolve the enterprise Data & AI strategy aligned to:
- Business priorities across State Street
- Platform-led transformation objectives
- Emerging industry and technology trends

Translate strategy into clear product-aligned roadmaps across:
- Data platforms
- AI platforms (ML, GenAI, Agentic AI)
- Enterprise AI use cases
Product & Portfolio Management
- Act as the enterprise product manager for the Data & AI portfolio

Own the end-to-end lifecycle of the portfolio, including:
- Intake and shaping of initiatives
- Prioritization and sequencing
- Roadmap definition and maintenance
- Structure initiatives as products and capabilities, not one-off projects

Ensure alignment across:
- Platform teams (Data & AI Platforms)
- Enablement teams
- Lines of Business
Roadmap Ownership & Execution Tracking
- Maintain a single, integrated enterprise roadmap for Data & AI

Drive deep tracking of delivery against roadmap commitments, including:
- Milestones
- Dependencies
- Outcomes

Establish strong portfolio discipline through:
- Regular reviews
- Progress reporting
- Issue escalation and resolution
- Ensure transparency across senior stakeholders
Value Realization & Outcome Measurement

Define and implement clear value realization frameworks, including:
- Revenue growth
- Cost efficiency and productivity gains
- Client impact and experience

Track outcomes at both:
- Initiative level
- Portfolio level
- Establish fact-based reporting of realized vs. expected value
Executive, Investor & Client Communication

Own creation of high-quality strategic and product narratives for:
- Executive leadership and Board
- Investor communications
- Client engagement and differentiation

Develop polished artifacts including:
- Strategy decks
- Roadmaps and capability models
- Progress and value realization reports
- Translate complex Data & AI capabilities into clear, compelling business stories
Demand Shaping & Use Case Definition

Partner with Lines of Business to:
- Identify high-value opportunities
- Shape them into well-defined product use cases

Ensure strong linkage between:
- Business outcomes
- Platform capabilities
- Roadmap priorities
Portfolio Governance (Execution Discipline, Not Control)
- Establish a lightweight but rigorous portfolio management operating model

Drive consistency in:
- Initiative definition
- Prioritization criteria
- Tracking and reporting
- Enable faster decision-making through structured portfolio insights
Team Leadership

Build and lead a small, high-performing team covering:
- Product and portfolio management
- Strategy and roadmap planning

- Education and Preferred Qualifications
- Senior leadership experience in product management, strategy, or portfolio leadership, preferably in:
- Leading technology firms
- Financial services or peer institutions

- Data platforms and data strategy
- AI/ML, Generative AI, and emerging AI capabilities

Proven track record as:
- A product-oriented leader, not just a strategist
- A portfolio operator managing complex, cross-functional initiatives
- Exceptional ability to create executive-level and external-facing content

Strong understanding of:
- Product roadmaps
- User journeys
- Platform adoption dynamics
Leadership Profile

Salary Range:
$225,000 - $337,500 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
