What you'll do...
Role summary: As the Senior Director of Data Science for Membership, you will lead a high-performing data science organization using advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical methods to strengthen membership performance and member value. You will set technical direction, translate complex business opportunities into scalable data science solutions, and partner with senior leaders across Sam's Club to deliver measurable outcomes. About the team: Membership is at the center of the Sam's Club business. Our team uses data and science to deepen our understanding of members, improve decision-making, and identify opportunities to strengthen the member experience and long-term membership performance. We work closely with business, product, engineering, analytics, and operational partners across Sam's Club. What you'll do:- Data Science Leadership: Define the vision and technical direction for Membership Data Science and build, develop, and lead a high-performing team of data science leaders and practitioners.
- Membership Growth & Member Value: Apply data science across the member lifecycle to identify opportunities to strengthen acquisition, engagement, retention, renewal, upgrade, and long-term member value.
- Business Problem Formulation: Partner with business leaders to translate complex and ambiguous Membership opportunities into well-defined analytical problems, actionable insights, and scalable data science solutions.
- Advanced Analytics & Machine Learning: Lead the development of predictive models, machine learning solutions, statistical analyses, and other advanced analytical capabilities that improve member and business outcomes.
- Experimentation & Measurement: Establish rigorous approaches to experimentation, measurement, and model validation to evaluate business initiatives and quantify impact on members and Membership performance.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with leaders across Membership, Merchandising, Club Operations, Digital/eCommerce, Marketing, Supply Chain and Fulfillment, Product, Technology, and Analytics to connect data science to the end-to-end member experience.
- Scalable Data Science Solutions: Drive data science from exploration through deployment and adoption, partnering with engineering and technology teams to create reliable, scalable capabilities integrated into business processes and products.
- Executive Influence & Business Impact: Communicate complex analytical findings in clear business terms, influence senior-level decisions, and ensure the team's work translates into measurable improvements in Membership and enterprise performance.
- Proven experience building, scaling, and leading high-performing data science organizations, including senior technical talent and people leaders.
- Strong expertise in statistics, machine learning, advanced analytics, experimentation, and model evaluation, with sound judgment in selecting the right methods for the business problem.
- Demonstrated ability to frame ambiguous business problems, identify the right data and analytical approaches, and translate results into decisions and measurable outcomes.
- Experience developing and scaling data science solutions using large, complex datasets in production or operational environments.
- Strong understanding of consumer or member behavior and the ability to connect customer experiences, operational signals, and business outcomes.
- Strong business judgment and executive communication skills, with a track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving cross-functional alignment.
- Experience partnering across business, product, engineering, analytics, and operations organizations to move data science from insight to adoption.
- Advanced degree in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience in data science, machine learning, experimentation, optimization, or other advanced analytical methods.
- Experience applying data science to retail, consumer, membership, subscription, loyalty, or other customer-focused businesses.
- Experience leading leaders or managers and multidisciplinary data science teams in a large-scale organization.
- Experience deploying and scaling analytical or machine learning solutions in partnership with product and engineering teams.
- Experience with Python, R, SQL, Spark, or related data science technologies.

The annual salary range for this position is $160,000.00 - $320,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
