Tips for Your Graduate Job Search
Tailor your resume for each application
Graduate job postings often list five to eight required competencies. Pull the exact language from the job description and mirror it in your bullet points. Generic resumes written for a broad audience consistently lose to targeted ones that speak directly to the role.
Lead with outcomes, not responsibilities
Hiring managers reading graduate resumes see dozens of candidates who list duties. Set yours apart by quantifying what you delivered: a capstone result, a research output, or a process you improved. Measurable outcomes do more work than a list of what you were assigned.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists graduate openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing. Applying in the first days a role is posted consistently improves your chances before review queues fill.
Target employers running structured programs
Many large employers hire graduates through rotational or cohort programs with defined start dates and training tracks. Search specifically for those programs rather than open-ended postings. They move faster, give clearer timelines, and tend to offer stronger onboarding support for early-career hires.
Prepare for competency-based interview questions
Graduate interviews at most mid-size and large employers use structured behavioral questions tied to specific competencies like teamwork, problem-solving, or communication. Prepare four to six strong examples from internships, academic projects, or volunteer work that you can adapt to any prompt in that format.
Follow up with a specific, brief note
After an interview, send a follow-up that references one concrete detail from the conversation, not a generic thank-you. Mentioning a specific project they described or a challenge they raised shows you were engaged and makes your message easier to remember when a decision is being made.
Graduate Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most graduates?
The companies hiring the most graduates right now include Walgreens, UPMC, and Westwood Professional Services, with the largest share of openings in Pennsylvania, California, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is consistently strong in finance, technology, consulting, and government sectors.
How many graduate jobs are remote?
About 8% of graduate openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though availability varies significantly by function. Roles in data analysis, research, and project coordination tend to offer the highest share of remote or hybrid arrangements, while client-facing and laboratory-based positions more commonly require on-site presence.
How do you become a graduate?
Completing a bachelor's degree in a field relevant to your target industry is the standard first step. Building practical experience through internships, co-op programs, or academic projects strengthens your application considerably. From there, identify employers that run structured graduate programs, tailor your resume to each posting, and apply directly to open roles that match your background and interests.
How do you get hired as a graduate with little experience?
Focus on transferable skills built through academic projects, group assignments, volunteering, or part-time work. Employers hiring graduates generally expect limited professional experience and weight your ability to learn, communicate clearly, and work collaboratively more heavily than your resume length. A targeted cover letter that connects your coursework or projects to the specific role closes a lot of experience gaps.
What does the graduate interview process look like?
Most employers run a two to three stage process for graduate roles. An initial screen, often a phone or video call with a recruiter, is followed by one or two structured interviews that use behavioral or competency-based questions. Some employers add a written exercise, case study, or assessment center. The whole process typically takes a few weeks from application to offer.
Where can I find and apply to graduate jobs?
You can find and apply to graduate jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Find roles that match your background and apply directly to each listing. Checking back regularly is worthwhile because new graduate postings are added as employers open roles throughout the year.
