DESCRIPTION
Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable broadband connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From households to small businesses, schools, hospitals, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve communities and organizations operating in places without dependable internet access.
As the product owner for AI enablement in this space, you will start by auditing how beta teams work today, mapping workflows, pain points, and repetitive manual tasks to identify the highest-impact opportunities for AI automation or augmentation. You will turn those opportunities into a clear, prioritized roadmap and partner with beta program leads, engineering, and AI teams to build, integrate, and deploy solutions. You will stay current on emerging generative AI models, agentic frameworks, and beta-specific AI tooling, and you will test, evaluate, and benchmark candidate tools against real team use cases to make informed build-versus-adopt recommendations. You will collaborate with the broader Amazon AI and beta communities to surface best practices, reuse existing solutions, and find opportunities to partner. To drive impact, you will lead and document trainings that drive adoption among beta program leads and the wider Experience Validation team.
Key job responsibilities
Success in this role is measured by real, sustained impact on how your beta programs operate. You will establish clear KPIs for adoption and value—active user rates, time saved per task, output quality improvements, and cycle-time reduction—and track them over time to demonstrate ROI and guide your roadmap. You will use data and user feedback to iterate, retire what isn't working, and double down on what is. The ideal candidate is comfortable both exploring emerging AI technology and getting close to operational workflows to understand where the friction really is. You are a self-directed builder who thrives in ambiguity, communicates crisply, and is energized by using AI to help a fast-growing organization do more with less.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
- 5+ years of product management, technical program management, or equivalent experience owning products or programs end to end
- Experience identifying process/workflow inefficiencies and delivering tooling or automation to address them
- Hands-on familiarity with generative AI models and/or agentic workflows and how to apply them to real use cases
- Experience defining KPIs, measuring outcomes, and using data to prioritize and demonstrate impact
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to drive adoption and influence without authority
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with AI/ML technologies
- Familiarity with beta, early-access, pilot, or experience-validation programs
- Experience driving team-level tool adoption and change management
- Background in connectivity, hardware, telecommunications, or other technical products
- Experience partnering with engineering and applied-science teams to ship AI capabilities

Tips for Your Senior Automation Specialist Job Search
Quantify your automation impact on paper
Hiring managers for senior automation roles want outcomes, not responsibilities. List cycle time reductions, uptime improvements, or throughput gains you delivered. Numbers tied to specific projects separate your resume from candidates who only describe what systems they worked on.
List every platform and protocol you know
Automation job descriptions filter heavily by toolset. Call out every PLC brand, SCADA platform, motion control system, communication protocol, and scripting language you have hands-on experience with. A vague 'familiarity with industrial controls' will lose you to candidates who name specifics.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior automation specialist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target postings by industry vertical
Automation work in pharmaceuticals requires validation documentation and FDA compliance knowledge that automotive or logistics roles don't. Filter your search by industry so your application lands with teams who need your exact regulatory and process background, not just your control systems skills.
Prepare a technical walkthrough for interviews
Senior automation interviews almost always include a live system design or troubleshooting exercise. Rehearse walking through a past integration project aloud, covering scope, hardware selection, programming logic, and commissioning challenges. Clear verbal explanation of complex decisions signals the senior-level judgment interviewers are testing for.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate salary
Before accepting an offer, clarify what systems you own, whether you lead other engineers, and what the capital budget looks like for new projects. Senior automation roles vary widely in actual authority. Getting scope clarity in writing protects you from a title that doesn't match the day-to-day.
Senior Automation Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior automation specialists?
The companies hiring the most senior automation specialists right now include Siemens, SpaceX, and Amazon, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and North Carolina, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand is strongest in manufacturing-heavy regions and pharmaceutical production corridors.
How many senior automation specialist jobs are remote?
About 42% of senior automation specialist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, though the majority of roles still require on-site presence for commissioning, system integration, and hands-on troubleshooting. Sub-areas like robotic process automation, software-defined control systems, and automation architecture design tend to carry the highest share of remote-eligible positions.
How do you become a senior automation specialist?
You typically start with a degree in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering and spend several years programming PLCs, building HMI applications, and commissioning systems in a production environment. Advancing to a senior role means developing deep expertise in at least one industry vertical, taking ownership of full project lifecycles, and earning hands-on experience with network architecture, safety systems, and cross-functional project leadership.
Can you get hired as a senior automation specialist with limited experience?
Breaking into a senior role without a long work history is difficult but possible if you can demonstrate project ownership rather than task execution. Building out a home lab, contributing to open-source control system projects, earning a certification like a Certified Automation Professional, and applying to smaller manufacturers who promote from within are all concrete ways to close the gap before targeting larger enterprise roles.
What does the senior automation specialist interview process look like?
Most hiring processes for this role include a recruiter screen, a technical phone interview covering specific platforms and past projects, and a final round that often involves a live system design exercise or a walkthrough of a past integration. Some employers add a site visit where you assess existing systems and propose improvements. Expect questions on troubleshooting methodology, project scoping, and how you handle cross-functional stakeholders like operations and maintenance teams.
Where can I find and apply to senior automation specialist jobs?
You can find and apply to senior automation specialist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your background and apply directly to each listing.
