Data Science Manager Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a data science manager job in Boston?
Target Boston's three dominant hiring clusters: life sciences and biotech concentrated in the Longwood Medical Area, financial services firms anchored in the Financial District and Back Bay, and technology companies in the Seaport and adjacent Kendall Square. Candidates who combine hands-on ML or analytics leadership with domain knowledge in one of those sectors move fastest. Building visibility through local data science meetups and Boston's dense university network also helps.
Which companies hire data science managers in Boston?
Employers hiring data science managers in Boston right now include XPO, Collegium Pharmaceutical, and BNY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The local market includes a mix of large biotech and pharma companies, regional financial institutions, and venture-backed technology startups.
Are there remote data science manager jobs in Boston?
Yes, though managerial roles that involve team oversight and cross-functional collaboration are less consistently remote than individual contributor data science positions. About 41% of data science manager openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid schedules most common. The most remote-friendly portions of the role tend to be analytical and strategic work, while team leadership and stakeholder meetings typically require in-person presence.
How can I get a data science manager job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a team lead or senior data scientist role at a Boston biotech, health-tech, or fintech company before stepping into a formal management title. Boston's deep concentration of growing startups in the Seaport and life sciences corridor often promotes analytically strong individual contributors into player-manager roles earlier than larger enterprises. Gaining experience mentoring junior analysts or leading a project workstream internally makes the step-up far more achievable locally.
Which industries hire the most data science managers in Boston?
Boston data science manager roles concentrate in Medical Devices and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Boston's position as a global hub for biotech research, its established financial services sector, and its growing base of enterprise software companies make those industries the most consistent sources of local demand.
