Entry Level Database Administrator Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level database administrator job?
Employers hiring at the entry level look for hands-on proof over credentials, so build a portfolio with real database projects: design a schema, write queries, and document your work on GitHub. Familiarity with SQL is the baseline expectation, and exposure to one major platform such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server gives you a clear edge. Internship experience or coursework with live datasets strengthens an application significantly at this stage.
Which companies hire entry level database administrators?
Companies hiring entry level database administrators right now include State of New Mexico, BNH, and ICF, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, including mid-size technology firms, healthcare organizations, government contractors, and financial services companies that need database support but are willing to train candidates who demonstrate core SQL skills.
Are there remote entry level database administrator jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles are still more common at this experience level. About 13% of entry level database administrator openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so remote options exist but candidates should be prepared for on-site or hybrid arrangements, which are especially common at organizations that handle sensitive data and require in-person access to production systems.
Are these new grad database administrator jobs?
Yes, many of these listings are new grad friendly and include junior and recent graduate roles alongside general entry level openings. A new grad posting typically welcomes candidates with zero to two years of experience and treats internships, academic projects, or a demonstrated portfolio as qualifying credentials in place of full-time work history. Look for postings that list internship or coursework as acceptable experience.
Which industries hire the most entry level database administrators?
Entry Level database administrator roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive consistent hiring at the entry level because they generate large volumes of structured data that require ongoing database maintenance, performance monitoring, and support work that is well suited to candidates building foundational experience.
