Entry Level Database Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level database engineer job?
Employers hiring at the entry level look for hands-on proof of skill over years of experience. A portfolio of personal or academic projects that demonstrates SQL querying, schema design, and data modeling gives you a real edge. Familiarity with at least one major database platform such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server is expected, and any internship or co-op experience handling real data pipelines signals job-readiness faster than coursework alone.
Which companies hire entry level database engineers?
Companies hiring entry level database engineers right now include Cvent, Google, and Amazon Web Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. A wide range of employers post at this level, from large enterprises building out data infrastructure teams to mid-size technology and healthcare firms that need junior engineers to support growing databases.
Are there remote entry level database engineer jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles still make up a significant share of openings at this level. About 13% of entry level database engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, giving candidates flexibility to apply well outside their immediate metro area. Filtering by work setting on Migrate Mate lets you narrow results to the arrangement that fits your situation.
Are these new grad database engineer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior database engineer roles alongside other entry level postings. A new grad-friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience and treats internships, academic projects, or a strong portfolio as equivalent to professional work history. If a listing asks for a degree but does not require prior employment, it is almost always open to new grads applying directly out of school or a bootcamp.
Which industries hire the most entry level database engineers?
Entry Level database engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they manage large, growing datasets and need junior engineers to help build, maintain, and optimize the database systems that support their core operations.
