Design Engineer Jobs in Irvine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a design engineer job in Irvine?
Target the aerospace, medical device, semiconductor, and defense companies concentrated in the Irvine Spectrum and Irvine Business Complex. Employers in these sectors value CAD proficiency, experience with product lifecycle management tools, and hands-on prototyping or testing background. Networking through UC Irvine engineering alumni channels and local industry events gives candidates a measurable edge over applicants who apply cold.
Which companies hire design engineers in Irvine?
Employers hiring design engineers in Irvine right now include Celero Communications, Marvell Technology, and Pentangle Tech Services | P5, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Irvine's employer mix skews toward mid-size to large technology, defense, and medical device firms, many of which maintain dedicated engineering centers in the city.
Are there remote design engineer jobs in Irvine?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for design engineers since the role often requires hands-on lab work, prototyping, or access to specialized equipment. About 17% of design engineer openings tied to Irvine are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and the roles most likely to offer flexibility are those focused on CAD modeling, documentation, or systems analysis rather than physical hardware testing.
How can I get a design engineer job in Irvine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Irvine is a junior or associate design engineer role at a mid-size medical device or electronics company, where project teams tend to be smaller and early-career engineers take on broader responsibilities sooner. UC Irvine's co-op and internship pipeline connects directly to Irvine Spectrum employers, and contract-to-hire positions at local defense contractors are a common way to build a full-time offer.
Which industries hire the most design engineers in Irvine?
Most design engineer openings in Irvine sit in Electronics & Hardware, Consulting & Professional Services, and Aerospace & Defense, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Irvine's concentration of aerospace suppliers, semiconductor firms, and FDA-regulated medical device manufacturers drives sustained demand for design engineers across both hardware and systems disciplines.
