Facilities Engineer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a facilities engineer in California?
Most facilities engineer roles in California require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, civil, or a related engineering discipline. California employers often look for candidates who hold or are working toward a Professional Engineer license through the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists, though PE licensure is more required in design roles than operations. Industry credentials like the Certified Facility Manager designation strengthen candidacy across most California sectors.
Which companies hire facilities engineers in California?
Employers hiring facilities engineers in California right now include Equinix, AHMC Healthcare, and BioMarin Pharmaceutical, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of large technology campuses, health systems, and life sciences research facilities means demand is spread across corporate, clinical, and laboratory environments throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most facilities engineer jobs?
Santa Clara, San Jose, and Milpitas have the most facilities engineer openings in California. Los Angeles and the Bay Area drive volume through their dense clusters of corporate headquarters, healthcare systems, and technology campuses, while San Diego's strong life sciences and biotech sector sustains consistent demand for facilities engineers who specialize in laboratory and GMP environments.
Are there remote facilities engineer jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Facilities engineering is inherently hands-on, requiring regular on-site presence to oversee building systems, manage contractors, and respond to operational issues. About 14% of facilities engineer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles tend to involve portfolio oversight, capital project coordination, or facilities management software administration rather than direct building operations.
How can I get hired as a facilities engineer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a facilities coordinator or building operations technician role at a large California employer, then moving into an engineering track. Health systems like Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health, along with major university campuses in the UC and CSU systems, regularly bring on entry-level facilities staff and offer internal advancement. A California FE exam credential or a CMMS software certification gives candidates a concrete edge when competing without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to facilities engineer jobs in California?
You can find and apply to facilities engineer jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and metro areas. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly.
