Position Summary:

The Facilities Engineer II is responsible for monitoring building utilities to ensure efficient and reliable operation is maintained; and to recommend and lead improvement projects, when necessary. You will be a hands-on technical leader ensuring that mechanical systems meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance. Additionally, the role supports current project operations, including oversight of construction activities, contractors, and ensures compliance with regulatory, corporate, and site requirements related to the buildings and grounds. The ideal candidate will be a multidisciplinary problem solver with practical experience in system design, commissioning, and ongoing facility support.
Work Model:
Core Lab & Ops: This role typically requires that the majority of the work be conducted on-site.
Responsibilities:

Provide hands-on support in system troubleshooting, reliability improvement, and commissioning activities

Lead or participate in project teams responsible for mechanical and chemical utility system design, installation, and startup
-
Work with internal and external parties to prepare engineering deliverables including Basis of Design, design narratives, performance specs, SOPs, and HAZOP reviews
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external consultants to drive project success and implement lessons learned
-
Review and approve design documents, shop drawings, submittals, and system modifications
-
Oversee consultant and contractor work: develop scopes, review bids, track performance, and ensure cost/schedule compliance
-
Identify and drive opportunities for innovation and efficiency in facility systems
-
Conduct site walks to coordinate utility connections and validate system integration with new equipment. Ensures reliable, efficient and sustained operation of the facility and all utility equipment. Drive / improve (infrastructure, utilities), availability, and reliability

Support current and future facility capital projects and site goal objectives

Lead and coordinate system/equipment shutdowns and general repair of architectural and utilities through small projects

Manages third party service providers and ensures staff are appropriately trained and qualified

Help establish, monitor, and drive continuous improvements for facility and utility KPI's

Employ root-cause analysis techniques when troubleshooting shooting failures and apply Improvement Methodology Techniques to help avoid reoccurrence

Become familiar with and help advocate the use of the company's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to properly document all maintenance and repair activities
Requirements:
-
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or the equivalent experience
-
Minimum 3 years of experience in facilities engineering, HVAC and utility system design. Co-Op experience will be considered.

Strong hands-on experience with system startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operations

Be able to read and understand Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Air Flow Diagrams (AFDs) and know how to recognize/translate symbols on the diagrams to the physical space

Proficient in developing technical documentation including SOPs, design reports, and operational sequences
-
Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, HVAC load calculators, hydraulic analysis software and common Microsoft Office applications

Ability to manage multiple complex projects and provide mentorship to facility technicians
-
Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds
-
Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential
-
A "can do" attitude and a willingness to do what it takes to achieve personal and organizational goals and overcome obstacles

Knowledgeable of Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and be a strong safety advocate on site

Planning, problem analysis, and decision-making skills

Building Management Systems, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
Physical Demand Requirements
-
Stand for extended periods of time with periodic stooping / bending / kneeling.
-
Ability to climb ladders and stairs of various heights.
-
Able to lift, push, pull up to 50lbs.
-
Work in a controlled environment requiring GxP gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet, and body. This requires the ability to change clothes into appropriate gowning and personal protective equipment.

Certain tasks may require use of a respirator; medical clearance will be required in advance.

Working in temperature-controlled environments (cold rooms).
