Equipment Engineer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a equipment engineer in California?
Most equipment engineer roles in California require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or materials engineering from an ABET-accredited program. California does not require a state-issued license specifically for equipment engineers in private industry, though engineers who offer services directly to the public may pursue licensure through the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. Employers in semiconductor and medical device manufacturing typically prioritize cleanroom or manufacturing equipment experience alongside the degree.
Which companies hire equipment engineers in California?
Employers hiring equipment engineers in California right now include Bloom Energy, Headway Technologies, and Harbinger, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of semiconductor fabs, aerospace primes, and medical device manufacturers makes it one of the most active states for equipment engineering hiring year-round.
Which California cities have the most equipment engineer jobs?
Fremont, Milpitas, and San Jose have the most equipment engineer openings in California. The San Jose and South Bay concentration reflects the dense cluster of semiconductor fabs and capital equipment manufacturers headquartered there, while San Diego draws openings from its large defense and medical device base, and Los Angeles from its aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries.
Are there remote equipment engineer jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Equipment engineers typically work on-site with physical machinery, so most roles require a presence in the fab, cleanroom, or production floor. About 2% of equipment engineer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to cover documentation, qualification writing, or vendor coordination rather than hands-on equipment work.
How can I get hired as a equipment engineer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to equipment or process engineering associate roles at California semiconductor and medical device manufacturers, which regularly hire new graduates from programs at Cal Poly, UC San Diego, and San Jose State. Companies like Lam Research and KLA run structured new-graduate programs that provide equipment training from the ground up. Adjacent roles such as equipment technician or process technician at a California fab are a common lateral move, and completing coursework in statistical process control or earning a Lean Six Sigma certificate strengthens an entry-level application.
Where can I find and apply to equipment engineer jobs in California?
You can find and apply to equipment engineer jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from employers across the semiconductor, aerospace, and medical device industries. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly from each listing.
