The Equipment Engineering organization is seeking a highly skilled Principal Equipment Engineer to support the Adhesion & Assembly engineering team. This role focuses on the hands-on development, integration, and deployment of advanced manufacturing equipment and automation solutions used across multiple enterprise manufacturing sites.

The ideal candidate is an experienced technical contributor with strong capabilities in industrial automation, robotics, controls, and manufacturing equipment development. This engineer will execute equipment development workstreams, collaborate with vendors and integrators, and deliver scalable, reliable, production-ready solutions. This role is execution-focused and supports ownership of technical deliverables, equipment development tasks, and vendor partnerships.

This position is not part of the program management organization. Schedule, budget, and program controls are handled elsewhere; this role is centered on engineering execution and hands-on technical problem solving.

What You Will Do:

• Develop, integrate, and validate advanced manufacturing equipment and automation solutions for Adhesion & Assembly processes
• Own execution of assigned equipment development workstreams, including design collaboration, integration, commissioning, and factory acceptance
• Work closely with equipment OEMs, system integrators, and automation suppliers
• Manage day-to-day technical engagement with vendors and challenge design assumptions to ensure manufacturability and scalability
• Support equipment architecture, controls strategy, robotics integration, and functional safety implementation
• Translate complex manufacturing problems into practical and robust equipment designs
• Conduct technical evaluations, design reviews, and troubleshooting for automated assembly, adhesive dispensing, bonding processes, and smart torque systems
• Support development of standardized equipment and process platforms deployable across multiple sites
• Partner with manufacturing sites, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, EHS, and other functions to define technical requirements
• Participate in commissioning, startup, debug, and handoff of new equipment to manufacturing sites
• Generate engineering documentation, specifications, test plans, and validation reports
• Provide subject matter expertise to support enterprise automation and assembly initiatives
• Proactively identify design risks, integration issues, and performance gaps; propose and execute solutions independently
• May mentor junior engineers and support capability-building within the team

Technical Scope:

The Adhesion & Assembly team supports manufacturing technologies including:

• Automated and semi-automated assembly systems
• Industrial and collaborative robotics
• Smart torque and intelligent fastening systems
• Adhesive dispensing and application
• Epoxy, sealant, and bonding processes
• Thermal interface material application
• Precision assembly and joining
• Vision-guided assembly
• Process monitoring and verification
• Integrated manufacturing equipment and automation cells

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
• Experience developing, integrating, or deploying industrial manufacturing equipment
• Strong experience with industrial automation and robotics
• Working knowledge of industrial controls, PLC-based systems, and equipment integration
• Knowledge of functional safety and machine safety principles
• Experience working directly with equipment OEMs, system integrators, or automation suppliers
• Ability to travel international and domestic up to 30%

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience developing automated assembly, adhesive application, bonding, or torque-related manufacturing equipment
• Ability to evaluate and troubleshoot complex engineering solutions
• Strong background in industrial robotics, automated manufacturing cells, and equipment integration
• Experience with commissioning, debug, acceptance testing, and production ramp support
• Experience supporting multi-site equipment deployment
• Familiarity with machine vision, precision assembly systems, or material dispensing technologies
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with vendors and challenge technical designs
• Strong hands-on problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and technical execution skills

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
