Systems Engineer Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a systems engineer in Florida?
Most systems engineers in Florida enter the field with a bachelor's degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or aerospace engineering from a Florida university. Florida does not require a state-issued license specifically for systems engineers, but many employers in defense and aerospace require or strongly prefer candidates who hold or are pursuing a Professional Engineer license through the Florida Board of Professional Engineers or an INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional designation.
Which companies hire systems engineers in Florida?
Employers hiring systems engineers in Florida right now include Northrop Grumman, Blue Origin, and Lockheed Martin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's concentration of defense contractors, NASA program partners along the Space Coast, and telecom infrastructure companies means hiring activity stays consistent even outside peak seasons.
Which Florida cities have the most systems engineer jobs?
Melbourne, Florida, and Tampa have the most systems engineer openings in Florida right now. Orlando and the Space Coast corridor, including Melbourne and Titusville, are driven by NASA programs, defense contractors, and simulation technology firms, while Tampa draws openings from defense IT, cybersecurity, and healthcare technology employers headquartered in the metro.
Are there remote systems engineer jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely software-focused fields, since systems engineers in Florida frequently work on classified programs, hardware integration, or lab environments that require on-site presence. About 42% of systems engineer openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with hybrid arrangements more typical than fully remote. Requirements analysis, documentation, and modeling work are the tasks most likely to be performed off-site.
How can I get hired as a systems engineer in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate or junior systems engineer programs at Florida's large defense contractors, which recruit heavily from Florida universities with engineering programs. Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon run structured early-career programs that place graduates without prior work experience into systems integration and requirements teams. Pursuing an active or interim security clearance early, building a project portfolio in MBSE tools, and applying for associate systems engineer or systems analyst roles positions candidates ahead of other new graduates.
Where can I find and apply to systems engineer jobs in Florida?
