We are a growing custom architectural lighting manufacturer seeking a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to help develop highly customized products from concept through production.
This is not an MEP/HVAC role and not simply a drafting position. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving practical design and manufacturing problems and thinking through how a product will actually be built, assembled, installed, and serviced.
Responsibilities
- Develop 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks
- Create production and fabrication drawings
- Design brackets, frames, housings, mounting systems, and mechanical assemblies
- Convert sketches, architectural drawings, STEP files, and concepts into manufacturable products
- Design parts for sheet metal, laser cutting, CNC machining, welding, extrusion, bending, rolling, and 3D printing
- Review designs for manufacturing, assembly, installation, and serviceability issues
- Identify missing dimensions, conflicts, and incomplete information before production
- Work directly with manufacturing and fabrication teams to solve design challenges
- Participate hands-on during prototyping, test fitting, assembly, and design validation
- Inspect prototypes and production parts and revise designs based on real-world feedback
- Maintain organized part files, assemblies, drawings, revisions, and project documentation
- Assist with product improvement and development of new manufacturing methods
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar field
- 0–3 years of experience
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply
- Strong SolidWorks fundamentals
- Good mechanical and spatial reasoning
- Ability to create and interpret technical drawings
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Ability to think independently and ask questions when information is incomplete
- Interest in hands-on product development and manufacturing
Experience with sheet metal, weldments, GD&T, aluminum fabrication, CNC machining, laser cutting, extrusion design, 3D printing, or prototyping is a plus.
Hands-On Manufacturing Environment
This is an engineering role that works closely with the manufacturing floor.
Candidates should be comfortable spending time in a production environment when needed to review prototypes, test assemblies, inspect parts, troubleshoot fabrication issues, take measurements, and work directly with manufacturing personnel.
We are looking for an engineer who enjoys seeing their designs become physical products and is willing to work side-by-side with the people building them.

A strong candidate will think beyond simply making something look correct in CAD.
You should naturally consider:
- How will this be manufactured?
- How will the parts connect?
- How will it be assembled and installed?
- Can production actually fabricate it as designed?
- Is any information missing?
- Is there a simpler or better way to build it?
You do not need to know everything when you start. We are willing to train a talented junior engineer who demonstrates strong fundamentals, curiosity, initiative, and good engineering judgment.
Compensation
$65,000–$75,000 annually, depending on experience, SolidWorks ability, portfolio, and demonstrated technical capability.
Additional performance-based bonuses may be available based on project ownership, quality of work, accuracy, initiative, and overall contribution to successful project execution.
