Position Summary: The Business Operations Application Development Intern will help design and build a web-based application that consolidates flight operations information and aircraft asset tracking into a clearer operational view. Translate user needs into tested features, connect approved internal data sources, and help replace fragmented manual tracking with reliable workflows and reporting. Most coding may be completed with approved AI-assisted development tools, but the intern remains responsible for understanding, testing, and documenting the resulting code. This position will report to the Digital Transformation Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet with business users to understand workflows, data definitions, pain points, reporting needs, and the decisions an application needs to support.
- Translate requirements into user stories, prototypes, database designs, interfaces, and working application features with limited day-to-day direction.
- Use approved AI coding platforms to accelerate development while reviewing, understanding, testing, and documenting the generated code.
- Develop and refine web-based forms, workflows, dashboards, filters, calculations, notifications, approvals, and reports for internal business processes.
- Build supervised connections to approved internal databases and services using documented SQL queries, views, APIs, or scheduled data processes.
- Map and reconcile shared identifiers and fields across source systems so data can be combined accurately and traced to its source.
- Validate source data, transformation logic, calculations, permissions, and application behavior with business and technical reviewers.
- Write unit, integration, and user-acceptance test cases; correct defects; and maintain a clear development backlog.
- Maintain source control, setup instructions, data dictionaries, interface documentation, release notes, and basic user guidance.
- Other duties as assigned
- Currently pursuing an associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical or computer engineering, data science, information systems, or a related field.
- Foundational programming experience in at least one language such as Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, C#, or Java.
- Basic understanding of relational databases, SQL, APIs, data structures, and software testing.
- Ability to work independently within a limited weekly schedule, ask questions early, and communicate progress and blockers clearly.
- Ability to document technical work and explain design decisions to both technical and business users.
- Experience building a complete application or meaningful feature using a modern web framework, database, API, automation tool, or data-visualization library.
- Experience using Git, GitHub, and AI coding assistants in a structured development process.
- Coursework or interest in aviation, finance, operations research, asset management, logistics, analytics, or workflow design.
- Use only company-approved systems, development environments, data sources, and AI tools. Do not enter sensitive company data into an AI tool unless the tool and use are explicitly approved.
- Treat AI-generated code as a draft. Review, test, document, and explain all code before it is merged or deployed, and promptly raise uncertain or unsafe output for review.
- Follow least-privilege access, secure coding, change control, version control, and documentation requirements. Protect internal data and use production access only under authorized supervision.
- A minimum of 10 hours per week in office only in Bridgewater, VA
- Availability for at least 90 days or completion of project
- Pay for this position is $12.77 per hour
- Working application features that address prioritized business requirements and can be demonstrated to end users.
- Documented data mappings and approved interfaces to internal systems, including reconciliation checks for completeness and accuracy.
- Tested dashboards, reports, workflows, or data-entry experiences that can be supported after the internship.
- Success will be measured by steady progress on assigned features, accurate and traceable data, reliable testing, clear documentation, responsiveness to user feedback, and the ability to explain how the application and its AI-assisted code work.

Tips for Your Devops Manager Internship Search
Start applying in the fall for summer roles
Large employers open summer internship applications the preceding fall, often as early as August or September. Smaller companies and co-op programs post much closer to their start dates. Check listings regularly from September onward and don't wait for spring to begin.
Build a portfolio before you apply
Without work history, your GitHub repository is your resume. Document two or three complete infrastructure or automation projects showing the tools you used, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and make sure every repository has a clear README. Recruiters screening devops manager interns look for evidence you can actually ship.
Work your campus network and apply directly at the same time
Campus career fairs surface structured programs tied to your university, and professors or career center staff often know which employers recruit from your school before roles post publicly. Apply directly to companies running smaller cohorts alongside campus activity, the two channels reach different pools and widen your options considerably.
Practice your technical screen out loud
Devops manager intern interviews typically include a technical screen covering systems design, scripting, or infrastructure concepts alongside behavioral questions. Practice answering out loud, walking through your reasoning step by step, interviewers weigh how you think as much as whether you reach the right answer. Run through mock problems until explaining your process feels natural.
Target structured internship programs early
Larger companies in technology and cloud infrastructure often run cohort-based internship programs designed to train people new to devops roles. These programs recruit early, fill fast, and tend to offer the most structured mentorship. Identify the programs that fit your background and apply in the first wave of their recruiting cycle.
Set your work-type filter before you start searching
On-site roles are 36% of the devops manager internships listed here. Decide what you can commit to before you start sorting through listings, filtering by location and work type upfront means you spend your time on roles you can actually take rather than eliminating them after the fact.
Devops Manager Internships: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a devops manager internship?
Lead with coursework, personal projects, and a portfolio rather than work history, hiring teams expect limited experience at the intern level. For devops manager candidates, a linked GitHub repository with documented infrastructure code or CI/CD pipeline projects gives recruiters something concrete to assess. Pair direct applications with campus career fairs, where recruiters often move faster for students they meet in person.
Can a devops manager internship turn into a full-time job?
Many employers extend return offers to strong interns, but conversion is never guaranteed. What drives it for devops manager interns is consistent performance on real work, available headcount on the team, and expressing interest in a return offer before the internship ends. Position yourself for it without counting on it, and keep applying to full-time roles in parallel.
When should I apply for devops manager internships?
Earlier than most candidates expect. Large employers recruit summer interns the preceding fall, meaning applications open in August or September for positions that start the following June. Smaller companies and co-op programs post closer to their start dates, so openings appear year-round. Checking listings regularly rather than waiting for a single hiring season is the more reliable approach.
Are devops manager internships paid?
Most professional devops manager internships in the U.S. are paid. Compensation varies by company size, industry, and location, so no single figure applies across the board. Where an employer discloses pay, it appears directly in the listing, filtering for roles that show compensation details is the fastest way to compare what's on offer.
What should a devops manager internship resume include?
Lead with projects, not work history. Include two or three complete, documented projects that show the tools you used and link to the work, for devops manager candidates, that means a linked GitHub repository with infrastructure-as-code samples, CI/CD pipeline configurations, or containerization projects reviewers can read directly. Add relevant coursework, keep it to one page, and cut anything that doesn't support the role.
Are there remote devops manager internships?
Yes. Remote and hybrid roles make up 64% of the devops manager internship listings here, with the rest on-site. Remote cohorts fill fast because they draw applicants from across the country, so apply early and filter by work type to see them before they close.
Can international students get devops manager internships?
Yes. F-1 students can intern through CPT while enrolled or through OPT work authorization after finishing a degree, and the employer does not have to file anything for either, so many companies are open to international interns. Confirm your eligibility and timing with your university's international student office before accepting an offer.
