Tips for Your DevOps Job Search
Tailor your resume to the stack
Hiring managers scan for tool names first. List the specific platforms you've worked with, such as Kubernetes, Terraform, or Jenkins, in your experience bullets rather than burying them in a generic skills section at the bottom.
Quantify pipeline and reliability wins
Vague claims like 'improved deployment speed' won't land. Replace them with concrete outcomes: how often you deployed, what your uptime target was, and how you reduced mean time to recovery after incidents.
Filter openings by cloud provider
AWS, GCP, and Azure certifications are often listed as requirements, not preferences. If you hold a specific certification, search for openings that name that provider so your credentials clear the initial screen rather than getting filtered out.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists devops openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a live demo for technical screens
Many devops interview loops include a hands-on exercise where you debug a broken pipeline or write infrastructure-as-code from scratch. Having a personal lab environment or GitHub repo ready lets you demonstrate muscle memory under pressure.
Negotiate scope, not just compensation
In devops offer conversations, ask which cloud accounts you'll own, whether you'll set the on-call rotation, and how large the existing technical debt backlog is. These details shape the actual job more than title or level do.
DevOps Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most devopss?
The companies hiring the most devopss right now include Amazon, Google, and Apple, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is concentrated in companies running large cloud-native infrastructures or undergoing active modernization of legacy systems.
How many devops jobs are remote?
About 34% of devops openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more remote-accessible engineering disciplines. Roles focused on cloud infrastructure management and pipeline automation tend to be the most remote-friendly, while on-site requirements are more common for positions supporting classified environments or on-premises data centers.
How do you become a devops?
Start by building fluency in Linux administration and at least one scripting language, then work toward hands-on experience with a major cloud platform. From there, learn infrastructure-as-code tools and practice standing up a CI/CD pipeline in a personal or open-source project. Earning a cloud certification validates those skills to employers and helps your resume clear automated filters early in the hiring process.
How do you get hired as a devops with little experience?
Focus on building a visible portfolio: stand up a Kubernetes cluster, write Terraform modules for a sample environment, and push everything to a public repository. Entry-level devops roles often appear under titles like junior cloud engineer, infrastructure engineer, or site reliability engineer, so search across those titles. Targeting companies in active cloud migration phases tends to surface more junior openings than mature teams that hire only seasoned engineers.
What does the devops interview process look like?
Most devops interview loops open with a recruiter screen focused on tool experience and availability, followed by a technical phone screen covering infrastructure concepts and scripting. Later rounds typically include a hands-on exercise, such as debugging a broken pipeline or writing infrastructure-as-code live, and a systems design conversation where you walk through how you'd architect a deployment or observability solution. Final rounds often include a culture or team-fit conversation with engineering leadership.
Where can I find and apply to devops jobs?
You can find and apply to devops jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings, find roles that match your stack and experience level, and apply directly to each one. There's no separate sign-up step required before you apply.
