Entry Level DevOps Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level devops job?
Focus on demonstrating practical skills over credentials. Build a home lab, contribute to open-source projects, and get comfortable with CI/CD pipelines, containerization tools like Docker, and cloud platforms. Employers at this level look for candidates who can show working examples of automation or infrastructure code, even from coursework or personal projects. A GitHub profile with real commits carries real weight.
Which companies hire entry level devopss?
Companies hiring entry level devopss right now include Booz Allen Hamilton, Northrop Grumman, and Leidos, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of large tech firms, cloud-focused consultancies, and growth-stage startups that are building out their infrastructure and automation teams.
Are there remote entry level devops jobs?
Yes, though remote availability varies by employer and role type. About 18% of entry level devops openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, making it one of the more flexible fields for early-career candidates. Many teams prefer hybrid arrangements so new engineers can get hands-on mentorship while still offering schedule flexibility.
Are these new grad devops jobs?
Yes, these include new grad, recent graduate, and junior devops roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship work or academic projects as qualifications, or explicitly invites candidates who are early in their career. Look for language like "entry level," "junior," or "0-2 years" to identify roles built for candidates coming in from school or a bootcamp.
Which industries hire the most entry level devopss?
Entry Level devops roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Banking & Financial Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they rely heavily on continuous deployment, cloud infrastructure, and automation, creating steady demand for junior engineers who can support and scale those systems.
