Diabetes Educator Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a diabetes educator in Texas?
To become a diabetes educator in Texas, you must first hold an active Texas state license in a qualifying healthcare profession, such as registered nursing (through the Texas Board of Nursing), registered dietetics, or pharmacy. From there, you accumulate supervised diabetes education practice hours and sit for the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist exam administered by the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists. Most Texas employers require or strongly prefer the CDCES credential before hiring.
Which companies hire diabetes educators in Texas?
Employers hiring diabetes educators in Texas right now include Ascension, Baylor Scott & White Health, and CHRISTUS Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and Federally Qualified Health Centers maintain ongoing diabetes education programs, making them among the most consistent sources of openings in the state.
Which Texas cities have the most diabetes educator jobs?
Austin, Corpus Christi, and Katy have the most diabetes educator openings in Texas, driven by the concentration of large academic medical centers, major hospital systems, and high-volume outpatient clinics that anchor each metro's healthcare economy, with Houston and Dallas in particular supporting extensive chronic disease management programs tied to their dense and diverse patient populations.
Are there remote diabetes educator jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of diabetes educator openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on, patient-facing nature of most diabetes education roles. The portions of the work most likely to shift to a remote or telehealth format are follow-up coaching sessions, group education classes delivered via video platform, and care coordination with interdisciplinary teams.
How can I get hired as a diabetes educator in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a clinical role adjacent to diabetes care first, such as a medical-surgical nurse, dietetic technician, or health educator at a large Texas system like Baylor Scott & White Health or a network of community health centers, then requesting rotation into their diabetes education program. Many Texas Federally Qualified Health Centers offer structured onboarding for new educators. Pursuing the CDCES eligibility hours while working and completing a Texas-accredited diabetes education program gives candidates a clear competitive edge without prior dedicated experience.
Where can I find and apply to diabetes educator jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to diabetes educator jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to this role across the state. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your credentials and preferred location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
