Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Accounting Specialist
Get your credentials assessed before applying
Australian three-year accounting degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree, but some employers will ask for a credential evaluation. Have a NACES-member evaluator assess your degree before you start interviewing so you can answer that question on the spot.
Target employers already filing LCAs for accountants
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have recently certified LCAs for accounting roles. These companies already understand the E-3 visa process and are far less likely to stall or back out once they receive your offer.
Search for Accounting Specialist jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by E-3 sponsorship readiness, so you're not cold-applying to roles where the employer has never heard of the visa. It's the fastest way to find Accounting Specialist openings at employers already open to sponsoring Australian professionals.
Frame your CPA or CA qualification carefully
U.S. employers often don't know how a Chartered Accountant qualification maps onto their hiring criteria. Explain that the CA designation is a postgraduate-level credential and align it explicitly with the CPA requirements they'd normally seek, so your application reads as a direct match.
Get the LCA filed before your start date locks in
The LCA must be certified by the DOL before you can attend your consulate interview. If your employer sets a start date without accounting for that timeline, you could miss it. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so nothing falls through after the offer.
Clarify your E-3 status with public accounting firms
Some mid-size public accounting firms assume all work visa sponsorship involves the H-1B lottery and will decline before asking questions. Bring a one-page E-3 explainer to interviews that outlines the employer's actual obligations, including the LCA filing and the absence of any lottery or per-petition USCIS fee at the consulate stage.
E-3 Visa Accounting Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Accounting Specialist jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search. It surfaces Accounting Specialist roles at employers who are open to E-3 sponsorship, so you're not guessing from a generic job listing. Filtering by sponsorship readiness saves significant time compared to cold-applying and hoping a recruiter knows what the E-3 visa is.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Accounting Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for E-3?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS treats accounting as a specialty occupation because the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a directly related field. The key is that the specific job duties must require that degree, not just prefer it. Roles that list a degree as optional rather than required can create problems at the consulate, so review the job description carefully before accepting an offer.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Accounting Specialist roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens, but for those who qualify it is meaningfully simpler. There is no lottery, no annual cap, and no multi-month registration window to wait for. You can apply directly at a U.S. consulate after your employer obtains a certified LCA from the DOL. H-1B applicants face a 25 to 30 percent selection rate in a competitive lottery, meaning most registrants are not selected in a given year regardless of their qualifications.
Can I change accounting employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but you need a new LCA and a new E-3 visa tied to the new employer before you start work. Unlike the H-1B, there is no portability rule that lets you change jobs on the same petition. You'll need to either return to Australia for a new consulate interview or, in some cases, apply for a change of status from within the U.S. Plan the transition carefully to avoid a gap in authorized employment.
