JOB SUMMARY
The Experiential Education Advisor (EEA) is part of the academic and career advising team that supports students in developing experiential and course experiences aligned with career aspirations. The EEA is responsible for (1) providing advising support to students with a special focus on transfer and international students; and (2) supporting international educational and experiential opportunities.
This is a full-time position that works on-site in Jackson, MS with regular office hours from 8:00am – 4:30pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch break.
JOB DUTIES
- Serve as advisor for all transfer students until they transition to a major advisor
- Serve as advisor for international students until they transition to a major advisor
- Help students map out plans of study that allow them to graduate in a timely manner
- Meet with students to discuss study away opportunities, including guidance on internal and external funding sources
- Support the Director of International Education in administering Millsaps scholarships for education abroad
- Support the Director of International Education by working with faculty leading study away experiences to ensure best practices and career alignment
- Engage and build relationships with external partners and alumni who can support professional development and opportunities for students
- Coordinate with international education partners
- Work to identify opportunities for international internships or related experiences that will support students
- Conduct information, education, and orientation sessions for campus constituencies
- Opportunity to work with students in a classroom setting
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree or above preferred
- Knowledge of curricular plans and progression
- Knowledge of NACE competencies and how these are developed through academic coursework
- Familiarity with the structure and functions of a liberal arts college
PHYSICAL & AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Manual dexterity needed for keyboarding and other repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 15 pounds without assistance.
