Job Summary:
The Department of Criminal Justice & Legal Studies at The University of Mississippi invites applications for Adjunct Instructors. Selected applicants will join a pool of instructors for future part-time teaching appointments when a course opening is available, and the applicant’s qualifications match departmental instructional needs. Adjunct Instructors focus on teaching in their areas of academic, professional, or practitioner expertise in criminal justice, legal studies, and related fields.
Job Description:
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Instruct undergraduate and/or graduate students in assigned courses.
- Develop and maintain course materials, learning activities, assignments, and assessments to achieve course learning outcomes.
- Deliver instruction in face-to-face, online, hybrid, or other approved formats.
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain accurate course records and submit grades and other required materials by established deadlines.
- Communicate with students in a timely and professional manner.
- Be familiar with university-approved learning management systems and instructional technologies.
- Faculty assigned to teach online courses must complete required University of Mississippi Blackboard teaching training prior to instruction.
- Follow department, school, and university policies and expectations.
- Other duties as determined by the Department of Criminal Justice & Legal Studies.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, criminology, legal studies, law, public administration, sociology, psychology, political science, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous teaching experience at the college or university level.
- Experience teaching in online and/or hybrid learning environments.
- Professional experience in criminal justice, legal studies, law, corrections, courts, law enforcement, victim services, emergency management, homeland security, cybersecurity, or related fields and/or a terminal degree (Ph.D., J.D., or other relevant terminal degree).
- Experience using learning management systems and instructional technologies.
