Who's Hiring

Education Jobs in Birmingham: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a education job in Birmingham?
Start by targeting the employers and institutions that drive most of the local demand: Birmingham City Schools, Jefferson County schools, UAB, Birmingham-Southern, and community colleges along the I-65 corridor. Candidates who have experience with Title I student populations or bilingual instruction stand out in this market. Networking through the Alabama Education Association's Birmingham chapter and attending local job fairs hosted by BCS gives you a real edge over applicants applying cold.
Which companies hire educations in Birmingham?
Employers hiring educations in Birmingham right now include Alabama State Department of Education, Music & Arts, and UAB Medicine, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Birmingham's education hiring is driven by a mix of large public school systems, regional universities, and nonprofit learning organizations concentrated in the Southside and Homewood neighborhoods.
Are there remote education jobs in Birmingham?
Yes, but only selectively. Classroom, tutoring, and hands-on student support roles are almost always on-site, while curriculum development, instructional design, and education technology roles often allow remote or hybrid schedules. About 33% of education openings tied to Birmingham are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, skewing toward corporate training and edtech roles rather than traditional school positions.
How can I get a education job in Birmingham with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Birmingham is a paraprofessional or instructional aide role with Birmingham City Schools or Jefferson County Schools, both of which regularly hire entry-level candidates and provide on-the-job mentorship. Substitute teaching is another common door-opener that builds local classroom experience fast. Nonprofit after-school programs in the East Lake and Woodlawn neighborhoods also hire entry-level education workers and frequently promote from within.
