Finance Professor Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance professor in Alabama?
Becoming a finance professor in Alabama typically requires earning a doctoral degree in finance or a closely related discipline from an accredited university, as most Alabama colleges and universities expect terminal-degree holders for full-time faculty positions. No state-issued teaching license applies to postsecondary finance faculty in Alabama. Candidates strengthen their applications by completing a dissertation with publication potential, gaining teaching experience as a graduate instructor, and building a research agenda aligned with their target institution's mission.
Which companies hire finance professors in Alabama?
Employers hiring finance professors in Alabama right now include Auburn University, University of Alabama, Birmingham, and University of Alabama, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's AACSB-accredited business programs and growing community college system also generate consistent demand for finance instructors at multiple experience levels.
Which Alabama cities have the most finance professor jobs?
Auburn University, Birmingham, and Normal have the most finance professor openings in Alabama. Tuscaloosa leads because the University of Alabama's Culverhouse College of Business is the state's largest business school, while Birmingham's concentration of banking institutions and liberal arts colleges drives secondary demand, and Huntsville's research-oriented economy supports growing business program faculty needs.
Are there remote finance professor jobs in Alabama?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely desk-based fields, since many finance professor roles involve in-person teaching, committee work, and student advising. About 17% of finance professor openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting growing online program enrollment at Alabama institutions. Fully remote positions tend to concentrate in adjunct or online-only course instructor roles rather than tenure-track appointments.
How can I get hired as a finance professor in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an adjunct or visiting instructor position at a community college or regional university while completing or recently finishing a doctoral program. Alabama's two-year college system, including institutions affiliated with the Alabama Community College System, regularly hires instructors with master's degrees for adjunct roles. Candidates without a full publication record can strengthen applications by documenting teaching evaluations, presenting at regional finance conferences, and earning a CFA charter to signal applied competency to professional program hiring committees.
