Senior Level Electrical Controls Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level electrical controls engineer job?
Employers hiring at this level look for engineers who have owned full project lifecycles, not just executed individual tasks. Strong candidates demonstrate hands-on expertise with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networking protocols, plus a record of solving complex system integration challenges. Showing that you have mentored junior engineers or led cross-functional commissioning efforts will set you apart from mid-level applicants.
Which companies hire senior level electrical controls engineers?
Companies hiring senior level electrical controls engineers right now include McCarthy Building, ControlPoint Technologies, and Peter Lucas Project Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level tends to concentrate among large manufacturers, industrial automation integrators, and energy companies that run capital-intensive operations requiring deep controls expertise on-site.
Are there remote senior level electrical controls engineer jobs?
Yes, though most roles in this discipline require regular on-site presence due to hands-on commissioning and equipment troubleshooting responsibilities. About 27% of senior level electrical controls engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with fully remote positions most common in roles focused on controls architecture, specifications, and design review rather than direct floor-level work.
What makes an electrical controls engineer role senior level?
Senior level electrical controls engineer roles are defined by scope and ownership. At this stage, engineers are expected to lead system design from concept through commissioning, set the technical standards others follow, and resolve issues that require deep cross-disciplinary judgment. Mentoring junior and mid-level engineers and interfacing directly with project managers, clients, or operations leadership are also consistent expectations at this level.
Which industries hire the most senior level electrical controls engineers?
Senior level electrical controls engineer roles concentrate in Construction & Real Estate, Consulting & Professional Services, and Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive the highest demand because they operate large-scale automated systems where controls failures carry significant safety, regulatory, or production cost consequences that require senior-level ownership to manage.
