Senior Level Environmental Remediation Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level environmental remediation engineer job?
Employers hiring at the senior level look for engineers who have led remediation projects from site assessment through regulatory closure, not just supported them. Demonstrating ownership of client relationships, experience with complex contaminant systems such as PFAS, chlorinated solvents, or petroleum hydrocarbons, and a history of mentoring junior staff signals readiness for these roles. Professional licensure as a PE or PG and familiarity with state and federal regulatory frameworks strengthens your candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire senior level environmental remediation engineers?
Companies hiring senior level environmental remediation engineers right now include Jacobs, ECS Limited, and Ramboll, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes primarily from environmental consulting firms, large engineering and construction companies, energy and utility companies, and industrial corporations managing long-term site cleanup obligations.
Are there remote senior level environmental remediation engineer jobs?
Yes, though most roles at this level require some on-site presence given the field-intensive nature of remediation work. About 52% of senior level environmental remediation engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common for engineers in project management, technical oversight, or regulatory compliance functions who can conduct site visits on a scheduled basis.
What makes an environmental remediation engineer role senior level?
Senior level environmental remediation engineer roles are defined by technical ownership and accountability across the full project lifecycle. Engineers at this stage lead site characterization and remedial design decisions, manage regulatory agency relationships, serve as the technical lead on complex multi-contaminant or multi-phase systems, and mentor mid-level and junior engineers on the team. The distinction from mid-level roles is independent judgment on technical and strategic decisions rather than executing work directed by others.
Which industries hire the most senior level environmental remediation engineers?
Senior Level environmental remediation engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they manage large portfolios of contaminated sites, face significant regulatory compliance pressure, and require experienced engineers who can navigate both the technical complexity and the stakeholder relationships that long-term remediation programs demand.
