Mid Level Electrical Design Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level electrical design engineer job?
Position your existing experience around ownership and outcomes, not just task completion. Highlight projects where you drove design decisions, resolved technical problems independently, or delivered a system from concept to production. Employers at this level want to see proficiency with CAD tools, familiarity with relevant standards, and evidence that you can work without close supervision. Tailor each application to the specific hardware domain the role covers.
Which companies hire mid level electrical design engineers?
Companies hiring mid level electrical design engineers right now include Amazon, KLA, and Redwood Materials, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a broad mix of manufacturers, defense contractors, consumer electronics firms, and infrastructure companies that need engineers who can own design work independently.
Are there remote mid level electrical design engineer jobs?
Yes, though hardware roles lean more toward on-site than purely software positions do. About 16% of mid level electrical design engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common at companies that still require access to lab equipment or prototype facilities for part of the week.
How do I move up to a mid level electrical design engineer role?
The path from entry level to mid level is built on depth and demonstrated ownership. Focus on developing fluency in a specific design domain, such as power electronics, PCB layout, or embedded hardware, while taking on progressively larger project scopes. Documenting measurable outcomes, such as cost reductions or reliability improvements you contributed to, helps show reviewers that your work has moved beyond supervised execution into independent contribution.
Which industries hire the most mid level electrical design engineers?
Mid Level electrical design engineer roles concentrate in Manufacturing, Consulting & Professional Services, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors drive consistent demand because they rely on custom hardware development cycles that require engineers who can own designs independently without requiring the same level of guidance expected of junior hires.
