Electrical Engineer Jobs in Minneapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a electrical engineer job in Minneapolis?
Focus your search on the sectors that drive the most Minneapolis hiring: medical device manufacturing, power utilities, and industrial controls. Companies clustered in the North Loop, Midway, and the suburban ring around Plymouth and Eden Prairie fill roles steadily. Candidates who bring hands-on PLC or power systems experience alongside a PE license stand out in this market, as do those with exposure to regulated manufacturing environments common here.
Which companies hire electrical engineers in Minneapolis?
Companies currently hiring electrical engineers in Minneapolis include Barr Engineering, Medtronic, and HGA, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minneapolis draws a mix of large medical device manufacturers, regional utilities, and mid-size industrial firms, giving electrical engineers a wide range of employer types to target.
Are there remote electrical engineer jobs in Minneapolis?
Yes, though selectively. Electrical engineering is largely hands-on, so fully remote roles are uncommon for positions involving lab work, site visits, or hardware validation. About 81% of electrical engineer openings tied to Minneapolis are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to cover design review, systems engineering, and technical program management rather than direct testing or installation work.
How can I get a electrical engineer job in Minneapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Minneapolis is through co-op and intern programs at the city's medical device and manufacturing companies, which routinely convert strong performers to full-time roles. Targeting associate electrical engineer and test engineer titles at mid-size industrial firms in the Midway and Plymouth corridors opens doors without requiring deep experience. A strong senior design project and familiarity with any industry-standard tool like MATLAB or AutoCAD EE helps candidates compete locally.
Which industries hire the most electrical engineers in Minneapolis?
The sectors hiring the most electrical engineers in Minneapolis are Staffing & Recruiting, Consulting & Professional Services, and Medical Devices, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minneapolis's dense concentration of medical device headquarters and its role as a regional power grid hub make those sectors the primary engines of local electrical engineering demand.
