ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SUBSTATION PROTECTION AND CONTROLS ENGINEER
Location: Eden Prairie, MN | Hybrid | Remote
Schedule: Full-Time
Salary: $120,000 – $180,000 (based on experience)
EVS is seeking a Substation Protection & Controls Engineer to join our growing team supporting renewable energy and utility infrastructure projects. This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership of complex substation design initiatives while mentoring others and shaping the future of our P&C engineering group.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the design and documentation of protection and controls systems for high-voltage substations.
- Develop and review project deliverables, including one-lines, three-lines, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, client standards, and utility requirements.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and studies teams to deliver integrated substation solutions.
- Participate in client meetings to present technical designs and support project discussions.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering technical excellence and consistency across projects.
- Drive department efficiency and quality through process improvement and tool development.
- Manage budgets, timelines, and deliverables to ensure projects are completed successfully.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Extensive experience in substation protection and controls design for transmission and distribution systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and related design software; familiarity with relay setting tools a plus.
- Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NESC, IEEE, and utility standards.
- Experience developing protection schemes, relay logic, and communication systems for substations.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration.
