Embedded Jobs in Irvine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a embedded job in Irvine?
The strongest path into embedded work in Irvine runs through its defense contractors, semiconductor firms, and medical device companies, which dominate local hiring. Candidates with hands-on firmware or RTOS experience stand out, especially those familiar with the aerospace and IoT product cycles common in the Irvine Spectrum and Research Park corridors. Targeting mid-size companies in those districts and connecting directly through their engineering teams tends to move faster than broad applications.
Which companies hire embeddeds in Irvine?
Employers hiring embeddeds in Irvine right now include Masimo, Parker Hannifin, and Motorola Solutions, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Irvine's employer mix skews toward established defense primes, fabless semiconductor companies, and FDA-regulated medical device makers, all of which maintain dedicated embedded engineering teams.
Are there remote embedded jobs in Irvine?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for embedded roles because most work requires direct access to hardware, lab equipment, or secure facilities. About 29% of embedded openings tied to Irvine are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, mostly in software-adjacent functions like firmware architecture review or driver development for teams with established lab setups. Fully remote roles appear most often at semiconductor IP companies in the Irvine Spectrum area.
How can I get a embedded job in Irvine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Irvine is through junior hardware or software engineer roles at the city's many mid-size medical device and IoT startups, which regularly hire engineers willing to learn embedded C and RTOS fundamentals on the job. UCI's engineering pipeline is well-known locally, so internships or capstone project experience with Irvine-area companies carries real weight. Contract-to-hire roles at defense subcontractors in the Irvine Business Complex are another common door in.
Which industries hire the most embeddeds in Irvine?
Most embedded openings in Irvine sit in Manufacturing, Medical Devices, and Technology & Software, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Irvine's concentration of aerospace and defense primes, FDA-cleared device makers, and fabless chip design firms creates unusually deep and consistent demand for embedded talent compared to most Southern California markets.
