Embedded Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an embedded job in Austin?
Target Austin's semiconductor and defense electronics clusters, particularly companies in the Domain and North Austin corridor, plus the aerospace and automotive hardware firms expanding around the Formula One circuit and Tesla supply chain. Candidates with C, C++, and RTOS experience stand out in this market. A portfolio of firmware projects or published open-source embedded work gives you a concrete edge when applying locally.
Which companies hire embeddeds in Austin?
Employers hiring embeddeds in Austin right now include Amazon Web Services, Amazon, and Cirrus Logic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Austin's embedded market draws a mix of global semiconductor manufacturers, defense contractors, and fast-growing hardware startups, all competing for engineers with low-level programming and real-time systems experience.
Are there remote embedded jobs in Austin?
Yes, though remote work is less common in embedded than in purely software roles because hardware bring-up, lab testing, and debugging often require physical presence. About 53% of embedded openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be firmware-only or systems integration positions where lab access isn't required day-to-day.
How can I get an embedded job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Austin is through hardware or firmware test roles at one of the city's semiconductor or consumer electronics firms, where hands-on exposure to embedded systems replaces the senior-level depth employers expect for design positions. Austin Community College and UT Austin's ECE program feed entry-level pipelines at local hardware startups. Building a demonstrable project, such as a microcontroller application on GitHub, significantly improves your odds with Austin's technically exacting hiring teams.
Which industries hire the most embeddeds in Austin?
Most embedded openings in Austin sit in Electronics & Hardware, Automotive, and Banking & Financial Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Austin's position as a major semiconductor design hub and its growing automotive and aerospace presence keep consistent demand for embedded engineers who can work close to the hardware.
