Software Engineer AI Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software engineer ai in Texas?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a software engineer ai in Texas, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skills. Most Texas employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a closely related field, with a master's degree increasingly preferred for roles focused on model research. Building a portfolio of AI projects, contributing to open-source ML repositories, or completing graduate coursework at Texas universities like UT Austin or Texas A&M strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do software engineer AIs make in Texas?
Software engineer AIs in Texas earn a median of about $132,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,600 for the lowest 10% to over $183,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software engineer ais in Texas?
Employers hiring software engineer ais in Texas right now include Apple, JPMorganChase, and SpaceX, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's large defense, semiconductor, and enterprise software base means many of these employers are building internal AI capabilities rather than relying solely on outside vendors.
Which Texas cities have the most software engineer ai jobs?
Austin, Plano, and Dallas have the highest concentration of software engineer ai openings in Texas. Austin's dense startup and big-tech presence drives the largest share of pure AI engineering roles, while Dallas attracts enterprise and financial-tech demand, and Houston's energy and industrial sectors are generating growing investment in applied AI for operational systems.
Are there remote software engineer ai jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 73% of software engineer ai openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the highly portable nature of AI model development and research work. The roles most likely to stay fully remote are those focused on model training, evaluation, and ML pipeline engineering, while positions requiring close collaboration with hardware teams or on-site infrastructure tend to be hybrid or on-site.
How can I get hired as a software engineer ai in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a new-graduate or rotational engineering program at a large Texas employer, where AI teams often onboard recent graduates alongside experienced engineers. Dell Technologies, Texas Instruments, and major Austin-area tech firms run structured early-career programs that accept candidates with strong academic projects or internship experience rather than full-time AI work history. Lateral moves from software engineering, data engineering, or data science roles are also common, and completing a recognized AI or ML specialization strengthens applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to software engineer ai jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to software engineer ai jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
