Software Quality Assurance Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software quality assurance in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license for software quality assurance roles. Most employers hire candidates who hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information systems, combined with demonstrated testing experience or a recognized certification such as ISTQB. Building a portfolio of test plans, automation scripts, and bug reports is the most concrete way to compete for roles at Texas technology, defense, and financial services companies.
How much do software quality assurances make in Texas?
Software quality assurances in Texas earn a median of about $101,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,010 for the lowest 10% to over $153,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software quality assurances in Texas?
Employers hiring software quality assurances in Texas right now include Apple, Amazon, and NVIDIA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large defense contractors, financial institutions, and enterprise technology firms generate particularly consistent QA demand throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most software quality assurance jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Plano have the most software quality assurance openings in Texas. Austin's dense concentration of enterprise tech companies and startups drives the bulk of listings there, while Dallas draws heavy QA demand from financial services and telecom headquarters, and Houston's energy technology and healthcare IT sectors fuel steady hiring across the metro.
Are there remote software quality assurance jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, because software quality assurance work is largely code-based and executed in digital environments that do not require physical presence. About 13% of software quality assurance openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed QA teams have become. Test automation, performance testing, and API testing roles are the most consistently offered on a fully remote basis.
How can I get hired as a software quality assurance in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate QA analyst or junior tester role, which large Texas employers in Austin and Dallas regularly post for candidates coming directly from a computer science or IT degree program. Dell Technologies and AT&T both run structured new-graduate programs that include QA rotations, and Texas-based staffing firms frequently place candidates in contract QA roles that convert to permanent positions. Earning the ISTQB Foundation Level certification and publishing a GitHub portfolio with automated test scripts gives entry candidates a measurable edge over applicants with no hands-on evidence of testing skills.
Where can I find and apply to software quality assurance jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to software quality assurance jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across Austin, Dallas, Houston, and other markets. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to each one.
