Engineering Jobs in Honolulu: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a engineering job in Honolulu?
The strongest hiring in Honolulu comes from defense contractors operating near Pearl Harbor, civil and structural firms tied to the city's rail and highway projects, and utilities supporting the state's renewable energy build-out. Candidates with experience in federal contracting environments, coastal or marine engineering, or construction project management stand out locally. Targeting firms in the downtown core and Kalihi industrial district improves your chances of landing interviews quickly.
Which companies hire engineerings in Honolulu?
Companies currently hiring engineerings in Honolulu include Hilton Grand Vacations, Consor, and Hawaiian Electric Company, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Honolulu's engineering employer base is anchored by federal defense contractors, civil infrastructure firms, and utilities with long-term project backlogs across Oahu.
Are there remote engineering jobs in Honolulu?
Yes, though remote opportunities are limited for hands-on roles like field engineering or site construction, and more common for analytical and design-focused work such as systems engineering or CAD drafting. About 100% of engineering openings tied to Honolulu are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the highest remote share found in software-adjacent engineering and program management roles supporting defense contracts.
How can I get a engineering job in Honolulu with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Honolulu is through internships or junior roles at civil engineering consultancies supporting Oahu's rail transit and road projects, where project-assistant positions are a common on-ramp. The University of Hawaii at Manoa and Hawaii Pacific University both produce graduates that local firms actively recruit. Familiarity with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or federal contracting basics gives entry-level candidates a clear edge over generalist applicants in this market.
Which industries hire the most engineerings in Honolulu?
The sectors hiring the most engineerings in Honolulu are Hospitality & Tourism and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Honolulu's heavy dependence on federal defense spending, long-running infrastructure modernization programs, and state-mandated clean energy targets keep these sectors consistently active as engineering employers.
