Field Services Engineer Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field services engineer in Hawaii?
Most Hawaii employers require at minimum an associate degree in electronics, electrical technology, or information technology, with a bachelor's degree preferred for senior roles. Hawaii does not issue a state-specific field services engineer license, but roles tied to electrical work may require registration with the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Electrical Licensing Program. Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or vendor-specific credentials from manufacturers like Juniper or Cisco carry the most weight with Hawaii's defense and telecom employers.
Which companies hire field services engineers in Hawaii?
Hawaii field services engineer roles are posted by BAYADA Home Health Care, Hilo Benioff Medical Center, and University of Hawaii system and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's mix of federal defense contracts, utility infrastructure, and expanding renewable energy projects means field services engineers work across a broader range of employer types here than in most mainland states.
Which Hawaii cities have the most field services engineer jobs?
Honolulu, Hilo, and Lihue account for the largest share of field services engineer openings in Hawaii. Honolulu leads because it concentrates the state's defense contractors, telecom carriers, and commercial technology infrastructure, while Kona and Hilo attract roles tied to renewable energy installations and utility maintenance serving Hawaii County's growing off-grid and grid-tied solar systems.
Are there remote field services engineer jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. The role is fundamentally hands-on, requiring travel to client sites, equipment installations, and in-person troubleshooting, which limits remote options significantly. About 0% of field services engineer openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how few tasks can be completed without physical presence. The portions most suited to remote work are pre-deployment planning, remote diagnostics, and technical documentation review.
How can I get hired as a field services engineer in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an associate-level technician or help desk support role with one of Hawaii's large telecom or defense employers, then transitioning into field work once you have hands-on exposure to the equipment. Hawaiian Telcom and federal contractors operating on Oahu regularly hire entry-level field technicians and offer structured on-the-job training. Earning a CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification before applying gives candidates a concrete credential edge, and volunteering for community broadband or renewable energy projects in rural Hawaii can substitute for formal work history.
Where can I find and apply to field services engineer jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to field services engineer jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Honolulu, the Big Island, and other parts of the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and specialty, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
