Construction Manager Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction manager in Hawaii?
Construction managers in Hawaii typically need a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture, combined with field experience. Hawaii requires contractors to hold a license issued by the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Contractors License Board, and many employers treat that credential as a baseline for senior roles. Candidates who add a Certified Construction Manager designation through CMAA or a PMP credential strengthen their standing considerably with both private developers and state agencies.
Which companies hire construction managers in Hawaii?
Hawaii construction manager roles are posted by Jobot, ECC, and JLL and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's mix of resort development, military construction on federal installations, and state infrastructure projects means hiring is spread across national general contractors, local firms, and government agencies with a lasting island presence.
Which Hawaii cities have the most construction manager jobs?
Honolulu, Kapaa, and Kaneohe account for the largest share of construction manager openings in Hawaii. Honolulu dominates because it concentrates the state's commercial development, public infrastructure, and corporate headquarters, while Maui's resort and hospitality construction drives strong demand there, and Kailua-Kona reflects ongoing residential and mixed-use growth on Hawaii Island.
Are there remote construction manager jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. Construction management is fundamentally a site-based role requiring direct oversight of crews, subcontractors, and inspections. About 11% of construction manager openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically cover pre-construction planning, estimating, or program-level oversight rather than active field management.
How can I get hired as a construction manager in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a project engineer or field coordinator with a Hawaii-based general contractor or state agency, then building toward a full construction manager role. Large Hawaii employers such as Nordic PCL Construction and the Hawaii Department of Transportation hire entry-level project support staff who progress with experience. Completing an internship through the University of Hawaii at Manoa's construction management program and pursuing an entry-level contractor license through the Hawaii DCCA makes candidates significantly more competitive.
Where can I find and apply to construction manager jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to construction manager jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and the areas of Hawaii you want to work in, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
