Construction Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction manager in New York?
The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture, then accumulating field experience on New York projects where local building codes and union labor practices apply. New York State does not issue a dedicated construction manager license, but many employers require candidates to hold a Professional Engineer registration through the New York State Education Department or to pursue the Certified Construction Manager designation through the Construction Management Association of America.
Which companies hire construction managers in New York?
Employers hiring construction managers in New York right now include LaBella Associates, Suffolk Construction, and Gordian, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's scale of public infrastructure spending, driven by agencies like the MTA and Port Authority, means government contractors and large integrated construction firms maintain some of the most consistent hiring pipelines in the state.
Which New York cities have the most construction manager jobs?
New York, Albany, and Clay have the most construction manager openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its volume of commercial, transit, and high-rise residential development, while Buffalo and Albany reflect steady public infrastructure investment and regional economic development projects that anchor hiring outside the metro.
Are there remote construction manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Construction management is fundamentally a site-based role, and most New York employers expect regular on-site presence to oversee subcontractors, inspections, and schedules. About 14% of construction manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to involve preconstruction planning, estimating, or program-level oversight rather than active field supervision.
How can I get hired as a construction manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for an assistant project manager or project engineer role at a large New York general contractor, where structured mentorship and exposure to live projects build the experience required for promotion. Firms like Turner Construction and AECOM run new-graduate programs in New York that onboard candidates into support roles. Completing a degree from a New York institution with an ACCE-accredited construction management program and earning an OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification strengthens an early-career application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to construction manager jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to construction manager jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and specialty, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
