HVEA provides a range of services including design and construction inspection of transportation infrastructure, consulting and construction materials testing services.
We are seeking Resident Engineers to work on construction projects in the New York Region 10 (Long Island, NY).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Supervises construction on various transportation projects and provides quality assurance that completed work is in compliance with the plans and specifications.
· Maintains accurate records and reports related to the project.
· Acts as point of contact and coordinates directly with general contractor and negotiate change orders.
· Monitors progress against accepted construction schedule and reviews the Contractor’s progress reports. Assesses the progress and informs Project Manager and client in case of delay.
· Directs, supports, mentors and monitors the performance of Construction Inspection and Office Engineering staff.
· Oversees field site activities and provides technical advice on construction and design.
· Discusses deviations from specified construction materials and procedures with Engineer in Charge (EIC).
· Regularly reviews and approves contract submittals and payment applications to contractors.
· Manages project close-out activities including the resolution of potential claims.
· Conducts regular progress meetings with the contractor and appropriate personnel and report on any issues, as necessary.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
· 10+ years of relevant construction inspection experience which includes roadway and bridge elements, including a background in both field inspection and office engineering.
· Knowledgeable of NYSDOT construction plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements for construction projects.
· Knowledgeable of construction materials, methods and procedures.
· Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
· Knowledgeable of safety standards, guidelines and specification codes.
· Ability to maintain field and office records; perform complex quantity and engineering computations; and read and interpret plans and specifications.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Strong time management skills and excellent attention to detail.
· Ability to effectively manage project team members.
· Must be organized and have effective problem solving, leadership and negotiation skills.
· Strong client relationship management expertise.
· Ability to schedule workload, meet deadlines and project deliverables.
· A personal vehicle is required for travelling to and from field locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
· NYSDOT and/or Locally Administered Federal Aid Project experience.
· Proficiency and experience with NYSDOT software applications including Site Manager.
· Proficiency and experience with APPIA construction management software.
Licenses/Certifications:
· Valid class D driver’s license.
· NYS Professional Engineer License (PE).
Physical Requirements of this position include:
The position requires the employee to work in potentially dangerous surroundings, sometimes in inclement weather conditions including rain. They must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, walk and stand for extended periods of time.
This position may require the regular operation of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.
