CONSTRUCTION SERVICES PRACTICE
Michael Baker International’s Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators and safety experts. As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects.
Description
Michael Baker is seeking a Resident Engineer (Structural) to join the Philadelphia construction services team! The Resident Engineer will play a key role in executing construction services for our clients and supporting our growth in the City of Philadelphia. This is an opportunity to grow and develop and work on a diverse group of projects in construction and program management services. This individual will be tasked with leading construction services projects to which they are assigned and working closely with clients on project sites to coordinate and execute construction projects mainly in the City of Philadelphia. The Resident Engineer will work on a broad range of projects with an emphasis on infrastructure and transit in the City of Philadelphia and work closely with clients to develop strong relationships in construction delivery.
Responsibilities
- Oversee capital construction projects for transportation projects including rail and transit agencies, bridge agencies, and other infrastructure agencies.
- Evaluate and review contract documents, work plans, schedules, phasing plans submitted by contractors.
- Develop staffing plans and assemble members of a construction organization if needed.
- Work closely with client project staff and client project managers to provide solutions on the construction project. Notify client project manager of apparent constructability issues or errors in plans and/or issues or questions in the field.
- Verify appropriate project documentation.
- Prepare complex correspondence.
- Lead regular project progress meetings with contractor and client, produce agendas and meeting minutes for project records.
- Oversee work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms with specifications and plans, adherence to schedule.
- Prepare or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, time and materials, and adjustments to work schedules.
- Provide management, inspection, field engineering, technical advisement for issues related to the construction of the assigned project.
- Coordinate work with contractors and owners, other government agencies as might be required.
- Manage project documentation such as RFIs, Submittals, Site Specific Work Plans, Phasing Plans, Contractor Staging Plans, Quality Control Documents, PCOs, COs, etc.
- Support client in development of change order scopes of work and/or cost estimates.
- Verify construction activities within federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
- Manage project invoicing to the clients, scope of work, and financials. Provide quality oversight for the deliverables provided to clients.
- Includes client management with client project manager, building relationships, and support business development, proposals, and project pursuits for growth in our Construction Services Team in Philadelphia.
Professional Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience in the construction management profession. Preferred background in structures (vertical or infrastructure).
- Professional Engineers (PE) license and/or CCM Certification required
- Must have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of technical specialists, clients, and public officials.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work in a collaborative manner with a diverse group of professionals on construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience in Scheduling (P6, CPM Scheduling, etc.) preferred but not required
- Experience with Project Management Information Software Systems
Compensation
The approximate compensation range for this position is $120,000 to $175,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
