Aero Structures Long Island is a family and veteran owned small business founded in 1961 as a small machine shop now located in Westbury, NY. ASLI specializes in the machining of “build to print” complex structural components and highly complex assemblies for the aerospace industry. Today, we produce precision-machined and monolithic structural components and assemblies for a variety of programs, including the military aircrafts CH-47 Chinook, V-22 Osprey, CH-53K, E2D, and the F/A-18 Hornet fighters. Our commercial aircraft programs include the Boeing 767 and the Gulfstream G550 & G650.

2026 INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

We are currently seeking candidates for a Manufacturing Engineering Internship. This is a great opportunity for an individual who demonstrates a high level of attention to detail, possess good mathematical aptitude. This internship will provide a college-level student with practical experience related to his or her major that will enhance and complement their classroom learning.

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will work under the direction of more senior engineer. The Engineering Intern will be responsible for creating and maintaining 2D technical drawings from 3D models. Job consists of identifying all features of the engineering drawing using CATIA software. Familiarity with engineering drawings (blueprints) and geometric tolerances a plus. You will work alongside the manufacturing engineer and quality engineers to ensure drawings are suitable for use in AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.

Responsibilities:

· Creating and maintaining 2D drawings from 3D models by using CATIA and ENOVIA, to develop sketches based on customer prints.

· Create technical 2D detail and assembly drawings with appropriate tolerancing methods.

· Analyze CAD drawings and models using CATIA for First Article Inspections (FAI) to ensure quality assurance of aerospace parts.

· Assist Engineering and the Quality Assurance team to provide production of FAI for aerospace parts.

· Implement ANSI/ISO standard to aid GD&T of detailed drawings and facilitate manufacturing standards.

· Draft FAI reports to support Engineering and the Quality Assurance manager for client manufacturing.

· Analyzes and interprets design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.

· Generate 3D models of parts and assemblies in CAD.

· Other duties as assigned to ensure customer needs are met.

Scheduling

· Time Commitment: The internship requires a part-time commitment of 20 hours (part-time) or 35-40 hours (full-time) per week. (Flexible hours)

· Internship Duration: This position has a typical timeframe of August - December. Internships may be shortened or extended at the discretion of the company.

START DATE: Contingent on Fall 2026 school schedule

Required Qualifications:

· College student in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree or recent graduate.

· A minimum of two (2) years progress towards BS in Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Technology.

· Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

· Strong computer skills in some or all of the following: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access).

· Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, models, sketches and GD&T preferred.

· Knowledge of AutoCAD/Autodesk & SolidWorks

· Basic understanding of manufacturing principles

· Solid technical understanding

· Effective communication skills

· Self-directed and able to work independently

· Ability to multitask, prioritize, and take initiative

· Strong analytical skills, troubleshooting, and problem solving abilities

· Be able to work between 20-40 hours/wk (Flexible hours)

· US Citizen or Permanent Resident

· This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a United States Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required
