Engineering Jobs in Akron: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a engineering job in Akron?
Focus your search on Akron's core hiring sectors: advanced manufacturing, polymer and materials science, civil and structural work tied to regional infrastructure, and the growing biomedical and defense supply chain. Employers in the Akron area tend to value hands-on lab or plant experience, so any co-op, apprenticeship, or technician background in those sectors strengthens your application considerably.
Which companies hire engineerings in Akron?
Companies currently hiring engineerings in Akron include GPD, CTI And Associates, and Parker Hannifin, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Akron's employer mix leans heavily toward established manufacturers, specialty chemical firms, and civil contractors with deep roots in the region.
Are there remote engineering jobs in Akron?
Yes, though remote availability varies sharply by discipline since most engineering roles require physical presence on a plant floor, job site, or in a lab. About 50% of engineering openings tied to Akron are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the highest remote share in software-adjacent, controls, and systems design roles rather than hands-on manufacturing or civil field work.
How can I get a engineering job in Akron with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Akron is landing a process technician, quality inspector, or junior CAD role at one of the area's mid-size manufacturers or polymer producers, where internal development programs are common. University of Akron engineering graduates benefit from strong local recruiter relationships, and community college technical programs feed directly into plant-floor engineering support roles at Akron-area industrial employers.
