Environmental Attorney Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a environmental attorney in Alabama?
You become an environmental attorney in Alabama by earning a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school, passing the Alabama State Bar Examination, and gaining admission through the Alabama State Bar. From there, most candidates build environmental law credentials through law school clinics, a clerkship with a federal or state court, or an associate position at a firm handling regulatory or natural resources matters in Alabama.
Which companies hire environmental attorneys in Alabama?
Alabama environmental attorney roles are posted by Jobot, Epic, and Parnall Law Firm and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's concentration of energy utilities, industrial manufacturers, and large regional law firms makes it a consistent market for both in-house and outside counsel environmental positions.
Which Alabama cities have the most environmental attorney jobs?
Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile have the most environmental attorney openings in Alabama. Birmingham anchors the market as the state's largest commercial and legal hub, with major law firms, utilities, and industrial companies headquartered there. Montgomery draws demand from state agency work and government affairs roles, while Mobile's port and chemical corridor generates ongoing permitting and compliance needs.
Are there remote environmental attorney jobs in Alabama?

The most realistic entry path is securing a summer associate or law clerk position at a Birmingham or Mobile firm with an active environmental practice, such as those handling Alabama Department of Environmental Management matters or energy sector clients. New graduates should also consider entry-level roles with the Alabama Attorney General's Environmental Affairs Section or the Alabama Department of Environmental Management's legal office, which offer structured exposure to state regulatory work and build the compliance background private employers look for in junior candidates.
