Environmental Compliance Specialist
Position Summary
The Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing environmental leadership and technical expertise across Saber Power's operations, projects, and business development activities. This role ensures compliance with applicable environmental regulations, supports project development and execution, and drives continuous improvement in environmental performance. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to project teams, helping identify, assess, and manage environmental risks while supporting the company's commitment to operational excellence and environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Provide technical environmental leadership to support company operations and ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Interpret and apply environmental regulations related to air quality, water resources, waste management, hazardous materials, chemical management, and transportation requirements.
- Monitor regulatory changes and evaluate potential impacts to company operations and projects.
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
Project Development & Risk Management
- Serve as the primary environmental resource during pre-construction, estimating, and tendering activities.
- Develop environmental risk profiles for prospective projects and identify potential environmental constraints early in the project lifecycle.
- Evaluate project-specific environmental requirements, including permits, licenses, surveys, and regulatory approvals.
- Coordinate and review environmental due diligence activities, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS/FEIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), and other environmental studies.
- Review Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and conduct inspections to verify Best Management Practices (BMPs) are installed and maintained in accordance with approved plans and regulatory requirements.
Business Development & Proposal Support
- Support proposal development and tender submissions by providing environmental strategies, compliance approaches, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with estimating, commercial, and planning teams to ensure environmental risks, mitigation measures, and permitting requirements are accurately incorporated into project budgets and schedules.
- Assist in presenting environmental solutions and compliance strategies to clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
Environmental Management Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Support implementation and maintenance of the company's Environmental Management System (EMS) and ISO 14001 principles.
- Facilitate environmental compliance during project handover and execution through effective communication of environmental requirements and project-specific risks.
- Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and compliance reviews to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and deliver environmental training and awareness programs for employees and subcontractors.
- Lead initiatives that reduce environmental risk, improve operational performance, and strengthen environmental stewardship throughout the organization.
Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory Support
- Act as a trusted advisor to project managers, field personnel, subcontractors, and leadership teams.
- Provide practical environmental guidance to support informed decision-making and successful project delivery.
- Foster positive working relationships with regulatory agencies, clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance experience within construction, utilities, power delivery, industrial, civil infrastructure, or related industries.
- Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements, including EPA, TCEQ, DOT, TSCA, RCRA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and related programs.
- Experience supporting environmental permitting, inspections, audits, and regulatory reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize competing demands.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
