Mid Level Environmental Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level environmental engineer job?
Position yourself around project ownership rather than task execution. Highlight permits you shepherded from application to approval, remediation plans you authored, or client relationships you managed independently. Tailor your resume to show scope of responsibility, not just duties. Employers at this level want engineers who can run a workstream with limited direction, so lead every bullet with the outcome you drove.
Which companies hire mid level environmental engineers?
Companies hiring mid level environmental engineers right now include Burns & McDonnell, Quanta Infrastructure Solutions, and Sodexo, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level covers environmental consulting firms, energy developers, industrial manufacturers, and public-sector agencies, all of which need engineers who can manage projects and client deliverables independently.
Are there remote mid level environmental engineer jobs?
Yes, though fieldwork limits full remote availability for many roles. About 12% of mid level environmental engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, typically covering report writing, data analysis, regulatory coordination, and project management tasks that don't require on-site presence every day.
How do I move up to a mid level environmental engineer role?
Progression from entry level comes from deepening technical ownership over two to four years. Focus on leading discrete project phases, not just supporting them. Build fluency in a specialized area such as remediation, air quality, or NEPA compliance. Document measurable outcomes like permits secured or timelines met. Employers promote engineers who demonstrate they can manage a workstream and take accountability for results.
Which industries hire the most mid level environmental engineers?
Mid Level environmental engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Manufacturing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive consistent mid level hiring because they require ongoing regulatory compliance, environmental impact assessment, and site management work that demands experienced engineers who can operate with limited supervision.
