Environmental Jobs in Los Angeles: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a environmental job in Los Angeles?
Focus on the sectors driving most of the local demand: municipal government, water agencies like the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, engineering and environmental consulting firms, and large commercial real estate developers navigating California Environmental Quality Act compliance. Candidates who understand CEQA review processes, site remediation, or stormwater management stand out here. Networking through local chapters of professional groups and targeting firms clustered in El Segundo and Downtown gives you a real edge.
Which companies hire environmentals in Los Angeles?
Los Angeles environmental roles are posted by Burns & McDonnell, Keck Medicine of USC, and University of Southern California and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The local market leans heavily toward environmental consulting firms, public utilities, county and city agencies, and developers managing complex permitting obligations across Los Angeles County.
Are there remote environmental jobs in Los Angeles?
Yes, but only for certain functions, since fieldwork, site inspections, and sampling are inherently on-site. About 55% of environmental openings tied to Los Angeles are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, mostly covering roles in data analysis, environmental reporting, regulatory compliance writing, and GIS mapping. Consulting firms serving Los Angeles clients tend to offer the most flexibility for desk-based work.
How can I get a environmental job in Los Angeles with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Los Angeles is through internships or technician roles with county agencies, water districts, or mid-size environmental consulting firms that regularly bring on junior staff for field sampling and data entry. Entry-level titles like environmental technician, sustainability coordinator, or junior CEQA analyst open doors locally. Volunteering with Los Angeles-area watershed or coastal restoration programs also builds verifiable field experience that local employers recognize.
