Event Planner Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a event planner in Delaware?
Delaware does not require a state-issued license to work as an event planner, so the path runs through education and credentials rather than a licensing board. Most employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in hospitality, marketing, or a related field. Earning the Certified Meeting Professional designation strengthens your candidacy considerably. Building a portfolio through internships at Wilmington-area hotels, universities, or nonprofits is the most direct route into a paid role.
Which companies hire event planners in Delaware?
Employers hiring event planners in Delaware right now include Common Energy, JPMorganChase, and HomeStar Remodeling, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of corporate headquarters and major health systems in the Wilmington corridor means consistent demand for professionals who can handle both internal corporate events and large public-facing programs.
Which Delaware cities have the most event planner jobs?
Wilmington, Millsboro, and Middletown account for the largest share of event planner openings in Delaware. Wilmington leads because it is the state's corporate and financial hub, home to bank headquarters and law firms that run regular client events, while Newark's activity is driven by the University of Delaware and its surrounding hospitality and conference industry, and Dover benefits from state government and legislative event needs.
Are there remote event planner jobs in Delaware?
Yes, but they're rare. Most event planning work is inherently on-site, since venue walkthroughs, vendor coordination, and day-of logistics require physical presence. About 0% of event planner openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those postings tend to cover pre-event project management, sponsor outreach, and administrative coordination rather than production or execution duties.
How can I get hired as a event planner in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an event coordinator or administrative assistant role at a Wilmington hotel, a University of Delaware conference services office, or a Delaware nonprofit that runs annual fundraising galas. These organizations regularly bring on entry-level candidates and provide hands-on production experience. Completing an internship through the university's hospitality program and earning a Certificate in Meeting Management gives candidates a measurable edge when competing against more experienced applicants.
Where can I find and apply to event planner jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to event planner jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to each one that fits.
