Tips for Your Event Planner Job Search
Quantify events on your resume
List the scale of events you've managed, including attendee count, budget size, and number of vendors coordinated. Hiring managers for event planner roles scan for scope immediately, and vague descriptions like 'organized events' won't stand out against candidates who show specifics.
Build a portfolio before you apply
Collect run-of-show documents, floor plan layouts, vendor contracts you managed, and post-event wrap reports. Even one well-documented event gives hiring managers concrete evidence of your planning process, which matters more than a polished resume for most event planner roles.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists event planner openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter for your event type niche
Corporate conference planning, wedding coordination, and experiential marketing each pull from different skill sets and attract different employers. Targeting openings that match your actual experience, rather than applying broadly, increases your callback rate and puts you in front of the right hiring teams.
Prepare scenario answers for logistics failures
Interviewers for event planner roles almost always ask how you've handled a vendor cancellation, a venue problem, or a last-minute change. Rehearse two or three specific examples with a clear resolution so you can answer without hesitation when the question comes up.
Negotiate title and event scope, not just pay
In event planning, the types of events you're assigned directly shape your future resume. When you get an offer, ask which events you'd own end-to-end and whether the role includes budget authority, since those details affect your career growth as much as anything else in the package.
Event Planner Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most event planners?
The companies hiring the most event planners right now include Gartner, Mattel, and Sci Shared Resources, with the largest share of openings in California, Florida, and North Carolina, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially high among hotel groups, corporate event agencies, and large nonprofit organizations running annual fundraising events.
How many event planner jobs are remote?
About 28% of event planner openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote roles concentrated in the planning and logistics coordination phases rather than on-site execution. Virtual event production and corporate meeting planning tend to offer the most flexible arrangements, while wedding coordination and large-scale live events almost always require significant in-person presence.
How do you become an event planner?
Start by volunteering to coordinate events for a local organization, campus group, or nonprofit to build a documented portfolio. Then pursue an internship or junior coordinator role at an event agency, hotel, or corporate events team. Earning a Certified Meeting Professional designation strengthens your candidacy for mid-level roles, and consistently expanding the scale of events you manage is how most planners advance.
Can you get hired as an event planner with little experience?
Yes, entry-level event planner roles exist specifically for candidates who've coordinated volunteer events, campus activities, or informal professional gatherings. Employers care most about evidence that you can manage a timeline, communicate with vendors, and stay organized under pressure. A documented example of one event you ran from start to finish, even an informal one, goes further than a degree alone at this level.
What does the event planner interview process look like?
Most event planner interviews follow a phone screen with a recruiter, then a structured interview with the hiring manager focused on past event examples and problem-solving scenarios. A practical component is common, such as outlining a mock event plan or walking through how you'd handle a vendor cancellation. Final rounds often include a meeting with the broader team or a department head who reviews the events calendar.
Where can I find and apply to event planner jobs?
You can find and apply to event planner jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to each one that fits.
