Project Controls Specialist Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project controls specialist in Delaware?
A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a closely related field is the standard starting point for project controls roles in Delaware. Delaware does not require a state-issued license specific to project controls work, but employers consistently favor candidates who hold or are pursuing credentials like the AACE International Certified Cost Technician or the PMI Planning and Scheduling Professional. Building hands-on experience with Primavera P6 through internships or entry-level project coordinator roles at Delaware's major construction or chemical manufacturing firms strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do project controls specialists make in Delaware?
Project controls specialists in Delaware earn a median of about $122,190 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,770 for the lowest 10% to over $166,660 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project controls specialists in Delaware?
Delaware project controls specialist roles are posted by JPMorganChase, Sargent & Lundy, and KBR and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of chemical, life sciences, and large-scale infrastructure employers means demand tends to cluster around Wilmington and the northern corridor where capital project activity is highest.
Which Delaware cities have the most project controls specialist jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and New Castle are the Delaware cities with the most project controls specialist openings. Wilmington leads because of the dense concentration of corporate headquarters, chemical manufacturing campuses, and infrastructure contractors in northern Delaware, while Newark benefits from proximity to the University of Delaware research corridor and regional construction activity, and Dover draws openings tied to state government capital projects and central Delaware industrial facilities.
Are there remote project controls specialist jobs in Delaware?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because project controls work often requires direct coordination with site teams, contractors, and on-site schedule reviews. About 50% of project controls specialist openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a market that leans toward hybrid arrangements rather than fully remote. The planning, reporting, and cost-analysis portions of the role are the most likely to be performed remotely when employers allow it.
How can I get hired as a project controls specialist in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or project analyst role at one of Delaware's large construction management or engineering firms, where you can build direct exposure to scheduling tools and cost reporting. Employers like Jacobs and major contractors active in the Wilmington corridor occasionally hire recent graduates into junior cost control or document control positions that rotate into full project controls functions. Completing an AACE Student Member certification or a Primavera P6 training course before applying gives a candidate a measurable edge over others at the same experience level.
Where can I find and apply to project controls specialist jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to project controls specialist jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings updated in real time. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, preferred location, and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
