Security Project Manager Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security project manager in Delaware?
Most security project managers in Delaware enter the field with a bachelor's degree in information technology, cybersecurity, business, or a related discipline, followed by a PMP certification from PMI. Delaware does not require a state-issued license specifically for this role. Employers in Wilmington's financial sector and the Dover defense community routinely require the PMP alongside demonstrated experience managing security or compliance-heavy projects in regulated environments.
How much do security project managers make in Delaware?
Security project managers in Delaware earn a median of about $122,190 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,770 for the lowest 10% to over $166,660 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security project managers in Delaware?
Employers hiring security project managers in Delaware right now include JPMorganChase, CSC, and Target, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of Fortune 500 corporate headquarters, federal contractors, and major health systems creates steady demand for security project management professionals at multiple experience levels.
Which Delaware cities have the most security project manager jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and Dover account for the most security project manager openings in Delaware. Wilmington leads due to its dense cluster of financial institutions and corporate headquarters, while Dover draws openings from state government agencies and nearby defense facilities, and Newark benefits from the University of Delaware and its surrounding technology and healthcare employers.
Are there remote security project manager jobs in Delaware?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely analytical roles, since many security project manager positions involve on-site coordination with physical security systems, vendor teams, or compliance auditors. About 67% of security project manager openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. The portions of the role most suited to remote work include documentation, stakeholder reporting, and policy development.
How can I get hired as a security project manager in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into the role from an adjacent position such as security analyst, IT coordinator, or compliance associate at a Delaware employer, then pursuing PMP certification to formalize project credentials. ChristianaCare, Nemours, and Delaware state agencies regularly bring on junior project coordinators and associate program administrators who work toward full security project manager titles. Building a portfolio of documented project outcomes, even from academic or volunteer settings, strengthens applications significantly.
