Security Project Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security project manager in Texas?
Most security project managers in Texas hold a bachelor's degree in construction management, information technology, criminal justice, or a related field, combined with a PMP certification from the Project Management Institute. For roles overseeing physical security systems installation, employers often expect familiarity with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation requirements that govern alarm systems contractors and installers in the state. Building experience through construction, IT, law enforcement, or military roles is a common path into the field.
How much do security project managers make in Texas?
Security project managers in Texas earn a median of about $98,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,460 for the lowest 10% to over $162,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security project managers in Texas?
Employers hiring security project managers in Texas right now include Apple, Arm, and HP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, energy infrastructure firms, and large healthcare systems means demand for security project managers is distributed well beyond the major metros.
Which Texas cities have the most security project manager jobs?
Austin, San Antonio, and Spring have the most security project manager openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its density of energy, petrochemical, and port infrastructure employers, Dallas draws from its corporate headquarters and data center buildout, and San Antonio benefits from a heavy federal and military presence including multiple major military installations that generate steady security program work.
Are there remote security project manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based roles, since security project management often requires on-site coordination during installation, commissioning, or inspections. About 16% of security project manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles tend to concentrate in the program oversight, compliance reporting, and vendor management portions of the work rather than field execution.
How can I get hired as a security project manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a security project coordinator or assistant project manager role from an adjacent position such as security technician, IT support specialist, or construction field supervisor. Large Texas employers in healthcare and defense, including major hospital systems and contractors supporting installations like Fort Cavazos and Randolph Air Force Base, regularly hire coordinators who can grow into full project management. Earning a CAPM certification and building a portfolio of any small-scale project oversight, even volunteer or internal work, gives candidates a concrete edge in Texas interviews.
Where can I find and apply to security project manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to security project manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
